6 speed conversion
I've purchased a 6 speed ty856wn6ka dccd box for my 98 sti type r. I'm getting the rear brembo set up with handbrake shoes and was wanting to know wether I needed the front and rear hubs and shafts aswell or will my existing ones can still be used. Can I get away with using my hubs and shafts and use the newage handbrake shoes and brembo rear brakes?
Cheers |
Basically no .... the R180 and R160 rear ends are different in quite a few ways! The handbrake drum is a different diameter, so with the R180 diff comes shafts, then hubs with all the handbrake assembly, that gives you the mounting for the brembos etc.
Front shafts and therefore everything outboard should be ok, but getting the rear to work goes pretty deep. Alternatively, you could keep the R160 rear end if you can get the diff ratio right to match the box .... not easy but there are ways! |
To op
Yes you Can do what you suggest , it Will fit :) /Skassa |
You Will need the stubs for the front shafts , thats it :)
|
JDC1 .... what diff are you going to use, If its R180 you'll be needing R180 shafts and therefore R180 hubs, then the R180 handbrakes there as a given.
It looks to me as if your asking if an R180 rear diff can be used with your origional R160 hubs with the R180 handbrake and brembos on????? If this is what you mean, then the answers no you cant. If your existing R160 diff is the correct ratio for your new 6spd (think this is unlikely) then you can keep your existing shafts and hubs and you have no need to change your current R160 handbrake assembly.... then the only remaining question is can you fit R180 rear brembos to R160 rear hubs! |
Just to confirm, I can or cannot use my existing rear shafts, hub assemblies so that I can use the newage shoes , brembos, pads and discs and I can use my existing front shafts but need to purchase stubs for the shafts? :). My rear diff is an r180 and am getting the diff with the setup which I presume is a r160.
I just need to be sure :) |
Sorry, just done a wee search and i had no idea that R180 diffs were on the type r's as far back as 98 .... i was presuming you were currently r160.
Im going to shut up now and wait for a guru to turn up as have no idea about the early r180 setup. Good luck. |
Lol mate, thanks for trying to help mate
|
You Can use your oe shaft, hubs,
You Can Mount the rear disc/calipers onto your hubs, and ude your own brake shoes On the front you need stub/seals to Mount into the gearbox to use your own shafts |
Will my hubs take the newage shoes, pads and discs for the brembos as I need them as mine are knackered?
|
your existing hubs shafts and diff will match up to the 6 speed assuming its a UK ratio box. You will only need the backplates to fit the Brembo handbrake shoes and discs.
|
Yes uk 2005 box.
|
I didn't think the r180 on mine had the same ratios, type r 4.444 and the uk box 3.9? Is the stud pattern for the newage discs different to my type r discs?
|
Somewhere in that lot is the right answer along with loads of wrong ones :)
Firstly, you'll need to swap the diff as the Type R uses a 4.44 R180, The UK 6 speed is a 3.54 R180. Secondly providing its a pre hawkeye box your existing front shafts should fit. Finally the rear hubs discs, calipers. Providing yours is a V4 Type R (with the two pot rear caliper) which it should be then newage disks, pads and brembos should fit without issue. |
Its my 2005 sti9 blobeye box daz,
So,can he use his rear shafts ?,we are trying to see if he can get away without running the 5x114 hubs,as this means he needs to change wheels etc. |
Thanks Daz, some light at the end of the tunnel :).
If that's the case Pete we can sort something out then :thumb: |
Yes he can use his current rear shafts. I'm running a Blobeye rear R180 Diff and am still using my V3 TypeR shafts, hubs and disks.
I thought 114pcd was only on the Hawkeye onwards. With regard to brakes, he should able to just bolt the Brembos onto his existing backplates and he's good to go. |
And I'll be ok using the newage shoes on my backplates? Also just need to confirm the stud pattern and them I'm ready to go
|
No daz, the 2005/55 sti9's were 5x114 and have the dccd 6 speed.
|
As i wrote /)
|
I never disputed that mate just like to be sure that's all:thumb:
|
Denmark, can I use the newage discs on my existing hubs?
|
You will have to drill them out to suite your 5x100 stud pattern james, easy job to do pal.
|
That's not a problem mate. So I think we have got there now :freak3:
Pm with the next step mate |
