prodrive ecu help

Hi all, iv got a my99 turbo, and iv bought a prodrive ecu.

I have recently fitted a samco rubber y pipe, K&N Panel Filter and a decat centre section before the new ecu arrived so i had all the necessary parts as the PPP had. I also have a full tank of high octane fuel.

Now iv fitted the ecu and been for a drive, and its seems to struggle with boost, juddering and then sometimes no boost at all? it idles fine and drives fine off boost.

Iv just done an ecu reset thinking that maybe it needs to learn new settings for my car (with the green and black plugs as per JGM's guide)

It still seems to do it tho, have only done approx 10 miles since reset, does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

Sounds the same probs as me, clutch!!!

Themexican 30 November 2011 05:15 PM

clutch? lol, that wasnt what i was expecting a reply to say, i dont see how it could be my clutch if it has been fine since having the car, no slipping etc, engages all gears fine too.

so u had the same symptoms and it was that then?

Themexican 30 November 2011 07:16 PM

anyone else got any advice? could it be maf sensor or ht leads?

albob 30 November 2011 09:19 PM

how about re-fitting the old ECu and seeing if u still have the same probs?

I've been on the phone to The Mexican tonight as we're good mates. The prodrive runs at 1.1bar compared to the 0.8 of the standard ecu. As the issues only occur when on boost i'm leaning towards it being 1 of 2 things. Either the boost solenoid needs cleaning, or it needs an uprated fuel pump to support the mods/ecu on the car.

I'm pretty sure some of the PPP cars came with an uprated fuel pump so I think this should be Daves next purchase.

He's going to put the old ecu back on to check how it runs, then clean the boost solenoid and refit the PPP ecu. If the problem persists then he'll return to the standard ecu and get a pump.

If anyone can confirm wether the PPP's have an uprated pump that would help, but as he has a de-cat and filter on it I would say an uprated pump is essential anyway.

The MY99/00 PPP consisted of the ecu, blue "Prodrive" hose, a 2.5 inch exhaust from the standard downpipe (cat) back with a resonated centre section, a "Prodrive" backbox.
These did not require a fuel pump or a panel filter, I would try the panel filter first and replace it with a standard item, if its still not working then put the standard ecu back in and see how the car is running, if you have the same problem then try the boost solenoid otherwise it could be a sensor thats knackered :(

There was also a different (larger) size of pill in the hose to the wastegate. Might be worthwhile trying a straight through pipe.Other possibility is that the boost hoses are not on correctly or split, or a bleed valve is already fitted and no-one has noticed.

sounds like a boost leak - just recheck over the Y-pipe and Intercooler to inlet piping

there is no pill size difference in the MY99/00 PPP its just exactly as TonyBurns described

update

bit of an update chaps, iv cleaned the boost solenoid, and the maf sensor with carb cleaner, and still the hesitation is there, almost feels like fuel starvation.

I have plugged in my orignal ecu and it seems to be fine, boosting as normal.

So im leading towards needing a better fuel pump, as it may not be providing enough fuel for the increased boost level?

Does this sound about right?

Iv checked all the pipe's that i can see also.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

shouldnt need a upgraded pump unless your one is really knackered. like really really knackered

where did you buy the PPP ecu from? are you sure its still a PPP ecu under the cover?

Themexican 01 December 2011 07:08 PM

i got the ecu from what seems like a decent guy on fleabay, he has been pm'ing etc, he had it on a my99 with the same mods to me basically.

i havnt opened the ecu up because i wouldnt know what i was looking for.
doesnt make any sense that my car runs fine with the old ecu in :-/

Gambit 01 December 2011 10:17 PM

nope it really doesnt :( should run no probs with it. plus i ran mine on std pump for a good few months with no issues

do you have an aftermarket dumpvalve? maybe a weak dump valve

have you tried it at like half & 3/4 throttle? will it still cut at those throttle positions or just full throttle?

Themexican 01 December 2011 10:31 PM

it has a baileys one that it had on when i got the car, iv just flebayed a standard one for a fiver to try.

it does seem to be when at full throttle.

surely it wouldnt work right with either ecu tho if it was the DV? unless its becuase of extra boost, im confused lol

Gambit 01 December 2011 11:10 PM

you might find the extra 0.2 bar on the ppp is just too much for the bailey to handle

Themexican 12 February 2012 11:12 AM

Just to clear this one up, it ended up being my MAF sensor, ran perfectly afterwards.

jaygsi 31 December 2013 11:49 PM

Thats something to keep in mind

328isport 02 January 2014 10:07 AM

That's interesting, but didn't you say when you switched back to the stock ECU everything was OK? So the MAF was failing but only under the demands of the PPP ECU and not the stock one?
