cant decide on what version sti
Bit of help neded.
im currently in the marked for a newage sti. ive seen two that im interested in but torn The choice is an 03 JDM Sti over a 05 uk Sti with PPP Kit.. both only have cat back milteks. Both cars are the same price/condition and covered the same miles. Im just after a daily user but with a good fast road set up. is one stronger than the other? i know the 05 has a wider rear track. but the jdm has twin scroll and forged as standard. looking for your opions peeps:) |
JDM ftw!
|
does the jdm have a vf37?
with the basics like decatted system.panel filter and remap what do they produce? and what turbo is on a uk 05 sti vf35 or 34 or did they chuck on a 43? so is the twinscroll a good set up?? |
I was in exactly the same situation as you, although the mileage of the JDM was higher. I went JDM and have not been disappointed. The twinscroll set up is very responsive and you have the added extras of forged engine components, not to mention the biggest selling point- the rear windscreen wiper!!! Also the JDM ecu allows for remapping with different features, but you would be best to talk to tuner if you are going down that route.
Once you go Jap, you never go back. Should also point out that I have never owned a newage Uk car, only a classic so there might be someone with a better knowledge base to wait for as well. |
jdm is always going to be better then the uk car engine wise and power wise and also suspension set ups
|
Im still wondering what part of a JDM engine people think is forged :lol1:
Tony:D |
i thought the crank and rods were better in a version 9 jdm lump then a uk lump and the 05 is that not a 2.5 any way so tunnign wise it will be better as it wil not break then 2.5 choc piston or did the 2.5 lump come in to pay in the uk until 06 humm ,
|
.....Jap (and) uk Bug STi has Forged (HG) pistons :)
Shaun |
Rods are the same as a uk 2ltr, cranks are different and so are the pistons.

Tony:) Thanks |
Only way to decide is drive both and see which you prefer, some people don't like twin scroll and others love it, they will both handle similar power, and they can both go pop, i would pick the better car, as in which one felt better and was in better condition.
the one that floats YOUR boat is the one to have.. :) |
spoke to rodger clark yesterday and the jdm does have forged pistons and stronger crank. like tony said.
|
If its mapped properly it won't matter, you would not want to take either much above 400bhp, yes the jdm is slightly stronger, but the uk has the wider track and the 05 is the face lift and considered to be the best of the newage uk sti's
So it's kind of 6 & 2 three's. Only thing to do is inspect and drive :) |

i too would like to know, as when speaking to one of the members of Rodger clark he told me they had a Jdm running 450bhp and also jgm had a uk running 2bar @502bhp and still wouldnt let go on standard internals!

Why not much over 400bhp? Would like to hear your reasoning behind this suggestion.
But if you know different then i shall bow to your superior knowledge and wisdom. :) |

I think we should all go over to the projects section and tell everyone to stop spending 20 odd grand on their engines as all they need to do is drop a second hand jdm bottom end in and 500 here we come. Anyway not my money so what do i care, just trying to offer some friendly advice, not start a war.... :) |
Cost is defo the biggest factor but I did run a standard newage 2 litre at 2bar making 522bhp no problem :)

I bet in some ways you wish you had left if at that. :) |

What turbo and supporting mods did you have on that as that would make me very happy.
I bet in some ways you wish you had left if at that. :) It was running a rotated gt3076r, 740cc injectors, syvecs ecyu, hybrid fmic, larger walbro pump and gt spec headers http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h.../Image0085.jpg |
JDM All the way, when I was looking for a new motor there was loads of choice on UK cars but I wanted a JDM car, Personal choice but the twinscroll setup and jap box did it for me, Even with just a tweak on the map and exhaust/panel filter you will be at 350 and spooling earlier than the UK equivalent on a VF35, But it all comes down to what you want as on the motorway you will be roughly 1000 rpm higher than the UK box so this equates to using more fuel.

Lol, that doesn't look like it would do well in a show and shine :D
I bet it went like a scolded cat.. :) |

Gotta keep it JDM Tyte Yo! On a serious note though, I think you should give both a test drive and make your mind up that way :)
