v1/2 ej20g block limits

Gents,

I have a v2 wrx ra engine in my classic, and I am wondering what the proven limits in terms of bhp are of this engine. I'm speaking mechanical only, the tuning I have is only knock capable at silly conditions such as 5th gear at 30mph wot:nono:

Over here, on the identical tuning via rom, guys hit 292,297,301 to the wheels, or roughly 375bhp.

This is with the td0516g, a proper slanty, and a 7300 rev limit. As well as 1.25 bar.

Just concerned with the capacity before things go BOOM

If its a cdb then its good for silly power, saying that even the odb blocks can do over 500bhp easily, its the internals you have to worry about, those are chocolate tbh :( start pushing your luck at over 330bhp.

Tony:)

there isnt a chance in hell you can run a 16g at 1.25bar on a slanty intercooler and make 375bhp !

Totally agree! You can run that engine up to 1.5 bar on a front mount and that still won't produce anywhere near 375bhp and won't see much over 310 with the small slanty top mount.

mechanically the open deck standard turbo engines can be tuned to 400 reliably with a decent rev limit with meth/water injection have this on a super reliable source

on standard equipment though eg a slanty etc id say youd be hard pushed to extract even 300 to 320 honestly

it's US of A horsepower chaps and probably a very generous RR

I think he`s talking US figures as comparing the two is a bit ambiguous like for like IMO

SAE Mustang brand Dynomometers.

It has been done over and over.

Anyway, I got one of the few odd ducks that did not get cdb for a sedan wrx ra. The rods are the weakest I assume? Quickly followed by the forged pistons?

Unless the engine was changed prior to your ownership.

lol at the 375bhp on a slanty IC, i bet it's got over 400ftb as well :Suspiciou

again, I think our bhps mean different. when a yank says bhp, we are talking at the engine/block/brakes

wheel horse is what we attribute to the power hitting the ground

Yup we have BHP at the fly, ie mine is 312 and at the wheels, mine is around 260.
But its pretty accurate bhp ;)

And I have 326.7 at the wheels which equates to 420 at the fly :D

Yeah but mines standard :p;)

Hi there

if its OBD i would say you will invest money to better pistons(Wiseco,CP,Cosworth etc.) and forged rods,ACL racing bearing set and you should be all right at 400-500bhp(at 500bhp i would say you will need at least 12mm head studs)

CDB are generally better engine for start tuning, with right spec you will not have problems at 600bhp.

About the RR figures, this has been several times covered,in USA is mostly used SAE,in EU are used DIN(mostly)
