idiot road users

Stuck behind two 40milers on a NSL road and overtake them(been stuck behind them for 3miles or so) because it is safe to do so. 40miler then starts to increase his speed as soon as I start the overtake making it a little bit more difficult (I drive a 1.6 afterall) and because of this I'm now faced with a car heading towards me and silly speed with nowhere to go.

So once I get back onto my side of the road, what does 40miler do? Yes, that's right he starts flashing the lights because I have been involved in the criminal offence of overtaking take. Apparently trying to kill someone by blocking their overtake isn't as terrible a crime as the overtake itself from his react.

Now generally I don't overtake multiple cars bur 40miler number2 had ample chances to overtake 40miler number1 but never bothered.

A lot of road users here in N.Ireland boil my piss in the morning.

Its just ignorant.
THis morning (approx 7:15am) I had some b@stard doing 35 in a 60 zone - now thats fine if thats the speed you want to do, but don't sit in the outside lane of a dual carriage way!

c*nts!

fivetide 16 November 2011 09:41 AM

I hope you slowed down to 30!

I had the exact same thing about a week ago. Although he was doing 35 in a 60
Madness isn't it. The thing is it makes me so mad I want to stop and beat the living **** out of them. Then its me that's in the wrong and the one who will get in trouble

I'm afraid I probably did for about 20 seconds.
He refused to move over - even started that old put your foot on the brake trick.

I though fcuk you, and I undertook, he began flashing flights etc.
Now I can honestly say I thought about poulling back in front of the fcuker and slowing down to under 30!

But I did not.

I see it this way
If you're in no hurry to get to your destination and can do 30/35 in a 60 zone, hows about you stay in bed for another half hour, or have another cup of coffee/tea/whatever

Indeed
Also when you undertake, then you're in danger of getting in trouble for that too. :(

andy97 16 November 2011 11:10 AM

When someone wants to overtake me, I let them. I will even brake to give them space. When I overtake I will do it very fast and on occasion overtake multiple vehicles. I never bother getting even with some tosser, I just ignore them. If you want to overtake get a fast vehicle, makes it so much safer.

jef 16 November 2011 02:42 PM

im same andy, always let others overtake, slow fcking tw*ts in outside lane, seem oblivious to other road users

ok there have ben times where its been 10 seconds or so, but as soon as spot them in rear veiw, pull into slower lane to let pass, just dont understand why not everyone does?

ive been forced to undertake on many occassions also, and its not even been noticed by some drivers!

then there is the 2 old people going the wrong way round a large roundabout, coming head on to me, had to swerve so he missed me, i was flashing lights, sounding horn and he just trundled past me without a flinch!

Terminator X 16 November 2011 03:18 PM

It must be said ... the amount of beemers & audis sat in the outside lane oblivious of everything around them is astonishing. Even when they spot you, they still refuse to get out of the way :brickwall

My favourite at the moment is the old guy and gal in their almost new car, who do 45 in a 60 limit..........and then CONTINUE to do 45 through a 30 limit:confused:

It's like their one year old Focus TDCi, or Golf TDi, has only one speed........

andy-m 16 November 2011 06:06 PM

my old company car was a silver astra. this only worked in that car cuz its what the police used but if I was stuck behind someone gowing way below the speed limit like that, I used to put my dipped beam on then keep flashing between dip n full beam at about the same rate a police cars headlights would. the retards in front either didnt notice that my headlights wernt alternately flashing or wasnt sure and moved over every time. made me lol

andy97 16 November 2011 06:50 PM

There are so FEW drivers. Forty EveryWhere!

RobsyUK 16 November 2011 07:14 PM

I've wanted to start a thread like this but I don't think there would be enough band width to take the upload.... Grr boils my piss no end!

PaulC72 16 November 2011 07:20 PM

They do annoy, maybe you should have stopped dead and had a word with them..

burbling1 16 November 2011 08:02 PM

If you weren't driving a 1.6 na you would have been past them both 3 miles previous without upsetting any other road users.

Frosticles 16 November 2011 08:16 PM

Should be an offence to drive well below the speed limit as it is to drive above it.

dpb 16 November 2011 08:22 PM

I have wondered whether the 40 mph everywhere candidate is just trying to save fuel ?

They'd be idiots then, as 55mph is supposed to be the most economical speed to drive.

Well, maybe if you did 45 in the inside lane of the 60 zone that wouldn't happen :D

Its certainly frustrating to find yourself behind a couple of slower drivers on a derestricted road like that. You have to remember however that there is no minimum speed limit and they are within their rights to drive at a slower speed as long as it is not ridiculously slow so that they can be considered an unnecessary obstruction.

On the other hand, there are those who hate to be overtaken and who also feel that they have the right to control everyone else's speed. They are also completely in the wrong and if the bloke accelerates inside you while you are overtaking then the law considers that he is guilty of dangerous driving. You of course have a perfect right to overtake if it is safe to do so.

I would have no compunction in reporting someone who did that to me to the authorities.

That's a gross over-simplification. Depends on the car and the road type and conditions. In the right (or is that wrong?) car, 40 could be very much more economical than 50+.

What really, REALLY irritates me is people in cars driving below 60 on the motorway when the road is clear. yes, I know is apparently economical but the LORRIES HAVE TO OVERTAKE THEM!!! This irritates everyone else.

Cheeky bugger :razz::D

It's always some old to$$er in a people carrier. They are worse than white van man

stevebt 17 November 2011 08:28 PM

I had some idiot driver flash me today, I was driving on the dual carriage way at 70mph and was going to take the next left. A people carrier comes along an inside filter lane under my speed and just pulls right over in front of me so I would of had to brake hard and I'm in a LWB van so I just moved over to the outside lane then cut back in and braked for my turn at which point she started flashing her lights at me. Considering she had just cut me up and if I had of smashed into the back of her it would of been her no claims to go.

I had to so a speed awareness course a few years ago because of a minor transgression (36mph in a 30 limit). Almost everyone else on the course was late 50s or in their 60s. One thing they made us do was write down the national speed limit on various types of road (urban road, rural A road, dual carriageway and motorway IIRC). You would have been amazed at the number of old folk convinced the national speed limit on rural A roads is 40mph, and 60mph on dual carriageways. I spoke to the lady running the course afterwards and she said that wasn't atypical, which explains a lot.
