Tesco Momentum/Super LPG/Shell V-Power?
 

I just want to get this out, which fuel type does everyone use?

I know Shell V-Power is the recommended fuel type but I have also come to use Tesco's Momentum and on occasions and Super Unleaded from Sainsbury.

The performance between the fuel types are noticable but found Tesco's Momentum(99 octane) in Watford to be cheaper and noticably gave more MPG.

Usually on the V-power but going to try Tesco momentum this week, hope fully will all be ok...

Used to use V Power but found the tank didn't last as long as when I filled up with tesco momentum, plus I get the points and use the money off vouchers from my shopping ;)

i was at scooby clinic getting mapped on the dyno by a well known mapper and both the mapper and dyno operative said tesco momentum is what they call random det, its not as stable as v power or somthing to that effect,. steve

What about the sainsburys stuff then, mine is standard other than ppp- have tried tesco's and sainsbury they both seem ok, no real power gains or economy.

I have only ever used V power or momentum no real difference still only get 230-250 per tank

I don't feel any differnce between tesco/shell just the price my scoob is pushed to the limit I think on standard internals at 410-420bhp and nocking on the door of 2bar peak boost and the ecu never reads any nock. So all good from both fuels :thumb:

I dont think that has been any real testing or proper scientific comparisons of Tesco Momentum. I was using Vpower (mapped) for a few years & now running with Tesco Momentum (mapped).

+ Momentum is obviously cheaper due to price, 5p off vouchers, clubcard points money

- Tesco petrol stations can have some stupidly long queues if you go at the wrong time of day!

+VPower is a well known, tried and tested, reputable fuel with relatively consistent batches. (That is not to say Momentum is not, its just that its not been tested properly by enough people. Some people say they have had random det from Momentum, but iv had a bad batch of Vpower while once mapping my Spec C).

Also: V Power does make my Scooby a little more noisier on start up and I do get a bit more of a pop from the exhaust now & then. Though this does not necessarily mean it has more octane but could be more due to the mix of octane increasing additives which are added to normal unleaded before the tanker leaves the depot. All Super unleaded & V power is just normal unleaded that has different additives put in to increase octane & engine cleaning agents etc. Momentum on the other hand is one of the only High Octane pump fuels that uses Methanol to increase the RON.

What is more important & useful is which one's RON deteriorates quicker over time sitting in the tank.

I use V-Power and Tesco Momentum don't see much difference really

Only use momentum or v power, whichever one is closer at the time

I'm mapped on T99/momentum and its the cheapest and most local for me:thumb:

I have just filled up with momentum and with my vouchers I saved £5.10.

Result three litres for nothing :thumb:

Momentum is my first choice, then V-Power. Won`t put anything else in, but being an import it does prefer Tesco Momentum.

Momentum is my first choice - the GTBs are mapped for 102 octane and cant be easily re-mapped.
Seems to run fine on it.......plus with the amount of fuel I'm burning I'll soon be able to buy my own oil well with "Rewards" vouchers :D

Some mixed experiences and preferences however v-power seems to be the norm.

Over the last few months I have been trying e.g 2 tanks of Momentum & then a tank of VPower to see if I can feel any difference in how the car behaves. This weekend was a good a test, -without any scientific equipment!

Friday night Tank empty I filled with £20 of Vpower, outside temp was 8 degrees c. I went for a blast up the A4?? towards London Colney, empty dual carriage ways, cold charge & a bit of fog!! Only used mainly 3rd & 4th gear but the car felt like it had more torque & was more responsive on acceleration. Whether this was because it was a lot louder with Vpower and so felt quicker, maybe but I doubt it. I preferred Vpower.

This morning, early, I filled up with a Momentum & went for a blast down the A41, same 8 degrees outside temp. The car definitely felt different, quieter, smoother but less responsive. It just lacked something as compared to the Vpower?

Its not scientific & just my opinion but I do think that for trackdays etc I will definitely put in Vpower. But for every day driving I'l stick to Momentum, - today I filled up £65 of fuel, handed in 3x 5p off vouchers & paid £57.50.....& got my clubcard swiped!! lol

ps when I had my car mapped I had half a tank of Vpower & half Momentum in it!!

If my wife can get me some Tesco money off vouchers, I too think will be filling up Momentum this week;)

I'll see what mileage it gives me over power/accerelation/responsiveness.
Although, I think you'll all agree we wouldnt be driving a subaru for the purpose of seeing how many miles we get from the tank.

For me I use my wifes car for that.

Is there alot of Tesco petrol stations in Japan then? :wonder:
