early coil pack or newage conversion or lead conversion?
 

Guys its come to the time were MY93 wrx coil packs are dying.
so looking for some of your thoughts on options.

Do i >
1) Replace them with a new set £37.99 each
2) Do a single coil and lead conversion
3) Do the new age individual coil pack conversion

which is best to do?
how good are the new age coils? ive seen the how to and all looks fairly simple task,

any info would be great.

I've just converted my 96 sti from single coil packs to newage coil packs and it was quite easy to do :)

Paul how does it feel now with those fitted..

I have recently had my old coil pack change to the newage versions. The car goes like a dream now, ticks over and rev's nice and smooth. I had help with mine but it did not take long but I also did the sparks and a compression test while I had the chance. All good.

But I would recommend the newage coil packs dude.

ok that sounds good. did you have tick over miss? mine starts from cold is crap so changed the coolant temp sensor for a new one and still the same, but on tick over i have a very slight miss every so often. and checked my coil packs to see i have hair line cracks on the tips.
just got to find some coils with the plugs now.

Basically mine would take a few seconds to fire up, this became clear when we took the old coil packs off. Three of the four were in a very bad state at the tips.

When I let mine tick over to warm up Id hear a miss yes mate, and when driving every time I hit boost whether it be under hard or gentle acceleration there would be a bad sputter. As you can imagine this was very annoying.

But since changing them she fires up straight away, ticks over with no miss and boosts as she should.

If I go my mothers later, that's where I keep my Impreza as she as a garage. I will take some photos of the old coil packs so you can see the state of them.

I have a full set of newage coilpacks with 4no coil pack leads (from 96 UK) all ready to do the conversion but decided to break my car before they got fitted. Will let them go for £100 posted (UK) if any of you guys are interested?

I fitted them at the same time I fitted my new engine but the car seems to be a lot smoother and it starts better from cold. We tested the coil packs before they were fitted and the sparks were huge that they were producing and at 1.65 bar on an MD321 there are no misfires or anything nasty :)

I am doing a newage coilpack conversion at the moment, cost me £56 for the coilpacks and tails, and then spent £40 on water proof multiplugs to make a pro job.

Me too, where did you get the multiplugs from?

Its a v.good conversion, Its the way ahead, mine is better now ( Winter is on its way you know it makes sense !!)
