Turbo timer strange prob.
Car - 1997 STI V3.
Right fellas, fitted a turbo timer last night (yes yes I know it's a pointless mod but had it there so thought sod it). Got a new harness from 'sumo power', plugged it all in and perfect. TT had an earth wire coming from it so bolted that to the car and hey presto. Working as it should. Then today I decided I wasn't happy with where I had put it so went ahead and moved it. Pulled the harness plug apart and removed the earth. Re-positioned the TT in the little pocket above the head unit. Fed the harness wire through the back and plugged it in. Then fed the earth through and went to bolt it down to earth. Here is the prob....... When I touched the black wire (TT earth) onto an earth it turned on the ignition. Found this very strange as its all as it was yesterday and even the earth is in the same place. So I used my volt meter to see if there was power coming down the TT earth wire and sure enough there was... WTF ???? Any ideas chaps, I'm stumped. |
Anybody got any ideas ??
|
Has unplugging it told it that "the engine has just been turned off......keep it running for x seconds"?
Because that's how they work....... |
Shoud I be seeing volts coming down the earth wire ?
|
On their way back to the battery? Why not?
|
Cheers bud.
All sorted. |
Why do you say it`s a pointless mod?

It is really, just take it steady for the last half mile and its fine to switch off. Failing that, let her tick over for 30 secs while your getting your bits and pieces together and then turn it off.

There may well be a turbo timer that does what you say but I've never heard of one.
They really are not needed chap, as I said take it steady for the final bit of your journey and all will be well. |

HKS timer calculates how long to time down for, very useful and saves having to sit in your car for 2 to 4 minutes after each journey.

Only problem I have is, I have to wait with the car while mine times down. If I get out, lock it and then walk off...when it shuts off, the doors unlock :( |
Mine was the same, but my alarm man rewired it and now I just set my alarm walk away and leave it to time down.

Even if the above was not the case, driving the last couple of miles off boost will do more for cooling that a TT could ever dream of doing. Don't buy into the hype - and spend money on drink and hookers  |

Utter waste of time in an Impreza - Turbo is water cooled and due to natural convection, the turbo will continue to be cooled after switch off.
