GREENLIGHT INSURANCE - 01277 650866 for Members Insurance

Greenlight Insurance Contact Details: Tel 01277 650866 / www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for visiting our thread, which we hope to be helpful with both providing background detail about Greenlight and also explaining how to reach us. But to summarise, our cover is relevant, we're competitive and represent a viable alternative Insurance option to members at renewal time.

Headline Summary (for those of you in a hurry, here's a summary of our key features)

1) Scoobynet member discount
2) Limited mileage rewards - lower road miles equates to a lower risk to us and we have several products available to reward this
3) Mirrored No Claims Bonus - for those of you running a 2nd car, if free from fault claims we're usually able to allow the equivalent discount to match any NCB you have earned under an everyday or company car
4) Like for like replacement of damaged/stolen parts in event of a repairable/replaceable incident
5) Agreed value option available
6) Trackday cover option - available under most of our our annual policies
7) Technical knowledge - Our staff are Insurance professionals, who also own and run the types of vehicles we arrange cover for

How can I get a quotation to see what you can do for me?
We'd welcome the opportunity to help and have a dedicated telephone team available during office hours (9am-6pm monday to friday, 9am-1pm saturdays) who can be reached by calling 01277 650866.

Alternatively, applications can be handled online and to find out more about us or to apply for a free quotation simply visit www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk

Either way, we're here to help whether your preference is to talk to us or to apply online.

Why try Greenlight to Insure my Subaru Impreza?
As a business we are genuinely different to most mainstream providers. Our staff and senior management are vehicle enthusiasts who own and run the types of cars that our customers drive, which helps to ensure we maintain a level of understanding beyond most everyday Insurance providers.

We were established as a genuine specialist vehicle Insurance provider and have a strong level of technical knowledge in respect of performance, modified, custom, classic and kit built vehicles.

Greenlight have a long standing pedigree and have been providing our specialist vehicle Insurance products to the performance, modified, classic, custom and kit car owner since 1996.

It’s safe to say we are not the usual ‘men in grey’.

How will your members scheme work?
Members covered by Greenlight will now be grouped together in order that we can gather data that will allow us to improve the Scoobynet Forum schemes as we go.

This will mean that your rates and benefits will be member specific and driven by the claims received vs premium received from fellow members, so as collective members you will have a direct influence upon the premiums paid and terms provided.

We are here to listen and will take on board the comments of members, including those who contact us for a quotation or take out policies with us during this time, with your feedback being used to improve both our infrastructure and that of your scheme.

What if my car is modified?
Modifications are not a problem to us and will be covered under our modified car Insurance products upon a like for like replacement basis in the event of damage or theft.

Unlike most Insurance providers our staff own and run the type of cars that we cover, thus we understand the mentality and positive care of car that comes from people that take pride in their vehicle.

For this very reason we particularly like to cover modified vehicle drivers, as our view is very much that if you are spending money to improve your vehicle it demonstrates that you keep your vehicle in good order and clearly care for your vehicle.

We have a pedigree for covering modified vehicles dating back to 1996 and have a decent understanding of the merit for carrying out the respective modification to your vehicle, the impact of the modification upon the vehicle and in most cases the tuner supplying or converting the vehicle.

You CAN disclose all modifications and we can accommodate just about any enhancement (up to and including full roll cages and nitrous oxide).

Our underwriters offer ‘like for like’ replacement of modified parts for repairable instances and where possible, or an equivalent substitute part will be offered.

What cover features do you have?
Under comprehensive cover contracts we can offer the traditional cover levels that you are accustomed to, which includes features such as windscreen cover, audio cover, free European cover, legal expenses cover, no claims bonus protection, a courtesy car from the approved repairer network whilst your vehicle is in for repair and a repair guarantee for the work undertaken by them.

In addition to the traditional cover, several of our Underwriters offer additional features and if any of these are useful to you our staff will be able to explain these (along with availability and any cost) in further detail to you:

Trackday cover – provides cover to your vehicle for accident damage sustained as a result of using your vehicle upon a UK race track. This cover is available under some of our annual Insurance schemes as a pay per event option for customers that are covered with us.

Like for Like replacement of modified parts – individual after market vehicle enhancements that are are covered under our modified vehicle schemes will be replaced upon a like for like basis in the event that damage is sustained or a part is stolen. In the event that parts are obsolete we will work with you to source an appropriate replacement (usually the equivalent part that superseded the obsolete part), or look to provide a cash value to enable you to select an alternative.

Key cover – This feature is available as an option to cover the cost of replacing your coded keys and locks in the event that your keys are lost or stolen, up to a cost of £1500. The cover can also extend to cover keys to your home in the event that your household keys are attached to the unique keyring provided.

Basic acceptance criteria
Ownership of the vehicle, or Performance driving experience are the key factors for covering high performance cars.

Due to the type of vehicles we cover under our preferentially rated schemes being primarily performance or modified vehicles there are some acceptance requirements to qualify for these schemes. The underwriters require all drivers to:

1) Be aged 25 or over for Turbo models (or 21+ for the sport model)

2) Have held a full UK license for 4 or more years

3) Have 2 or more years no claims (NCB) earned in their own name (on this or another vehicle in your own name)

4) Have either owned the vehicle that you’re looking to Insure for 12 months or an entire winter period, or have proven driving experience of a similar performance car, owned and Insured in your name for the same period

Insurance rating is based upon the historic performance of the policyholders that are covered and from time to time we may be unable to assist, or seem uncompetitive. This is likely to be as a result of our preferentially rated schemes excluding aspects of risk that have been consistently loss making for a period of 3 years or more.

What we can assure you is that we will always look to help each and every one of you, looking for the positive factors in every applicant to help source the best possible offer that we can from our range of available schemes.

Why target Performance models?
We are a niche Insurance specialist and as such look to cover models of vehicles that people aspire to own, take pride in and put a smile upon the drivers face.

This ensures a cherished factor and we particularly like the element of pride, along with the heightened care that goes hand in hand with owing a performance car (rather than a basic a-to-b model). To us this represents a great moral factor – our comparative premiums and terms provided are geared to reflect this.

Most Subaru Impreza models have Thatcham approved security fitted as standard and the keys are coded to the vehicle.

These models also handle really well, which is nice to know from an Insurers perspective.

The Subaru Impreza performance models are genuine performance cars and represent a vehicle that a driver would be proud to own.

Do you cover other models?
We are primarily here to cover performance Subaru models, but do have schemes available to cover an array of other performance car models for members if required to do so.

In addition to our specialist schemes we are developing access to open market products, along with relevant partners that can cater for you and provide an option where members have requirements beyond the criteria of our preferentially rated schemes.

Whilst open market schemes and partner providers are not forum specific, they will help us to provide members an option along with highlighting where we need to develop further schemes beyond those we already offer.

Thanks for listening, we're pleased to be back and look forward to hearing from you :thumb:

Kind regards

Good quote

Hi Tony,

Rang Wednesday for a quote, good service from the guy I spoke to, seemed to know/understand the mods on my Impreza which was great (and quite unusual apart from A-plan/Moley).

Last year Greenlight were not competative - your best was £860 this year though £669 - £11 more than A-plan (my current insurers) but Greenlight excess was £50 lower so a really good quote.

Proper job:thumb:

Tony@Greenlight 11 November 2011 09:32 AM

Thanks henrysmith,

We have been covering Subaru models since they first came over here, but had dropped off Scoobynet in early 2009.

In our absence we still continued to cover the models and spent our time listening, learning and improving.

Glad to see it's paid off.

Kind regards

Tony

Thanks for your feedback, very kind of you to post your experience.

Having checked into the detail of the offer that we had provided I can also confirm that in addition to the traditional benefits you receive with comprehensive cover policies, your offer also included the following:

1) Modifications are covered on a like for like replacement basis when damaged or stolen

2) Track days are an option

3) You will receive a 14 day hire car if your vehicle is stolen/written off (as well as a courtesy car being available when you're in for regular repairs)

We've been sharpening our rating for the better risks, so it's nice to see that this has paid dividends for you with us being we're way more competitive than we had been for you last year :thumb:

SPEN555 11 November 2011 09:48 AM

Quickly scanning down I could not see mention of offering cover on “grey import“ ie cars imported which are for the japanese domestic market (JDM). Previously iirc greenlight have avoided covering this. Apologies if any of the above is incorrect.

Micheru 11 November 2011 10:04 AM

Boo, haven't owned my car through a winter yet. Insurance due end of the month :(

Tony@Greenlight 11 November 2011 10:14 AM

Hi Spen555,

Thanks for taking the time to post in our thread.

With parts being more readily available we are able to cover imported models that are recognised (coded) by the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

If you drive a JDM/Grey import the best bet would be to check the model is listed before making an application.

The link below takes you to the Thatcham research institute website:

http://www.thatcham.org/abigrouprating/

On the right hand side of the page you will find an option to enter vehicle model detail, which will lead to a shortlist of models.

If your vehicle is present we should be able to cover it.

Kind regards

Tony

CREWJ 11 November 2011 10:24 AM

Glad to have you :D

Where do you stand on people that move from a sport to an Sti but cater to all of the other requirements?

Tony@Greenlight 11 November 2011 10:24 AM

Hi Micheru,

If you had a previous performance car it's likely that we would still be able to help, it's where someone has jumped from a low bhp (non-performance) model car that will be a problem to us.

You could always PM me details of how long you've owned your Subaru, along with details of the previous cars that you have owned and Insured in your own name (up to 2 years ago).

This would allow me to check with our technical team and to hopefully get the green light (no pun intended ;) )before you make an application.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Crewj,

Thanks for the welcome back, it's appreciated.

As a rule of thumb the higher the performance of the model that you currently have before, the better we will be for you. It's all about progressive experience (ie. building up through the models)

Coming from a sport model (especially if it has performance enhancing modifications) would give us a good chance to look at the WRX model :thumb:

The STi is likely to be a step too far from the Sport, as Underwriters will look at the difference in BHP.

It's not going to be what you want to hear, but your most cost effective way forward from an Insurance perspective would be to go from the sport to a WRX, which you could modify to heightened BHP after you had owned the model for 8 months+

You could then either retain the WRX, or look to step up to the WRX Sti once you have had a year's experience with the WRX.

Kind regards

Tony

R12CYS 11 November 2011 11:13 AM

How would you class the ppp pack? as its a safe map a recommended. Would this still be modified? currently with admiral and they split the pack and take into account each upgraded part which is a killer on my premiums.

CREWJ 11 November 2011 11:22 AM

Ah, that would probably cost more in the long run.

Tony@Greenlight 11 November 2011 12:20 PM

Sorry crewj,

From an Insurance perspective the progressive experience approach will be the way to achieve the best deals.

But as you say, buying a WRX then selling it for a WRX Sti after a year may cost more in the long run.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi R12CYS,

We would class the Prodrive Performance Pack as a collective upgrade and have plenty of experience covering PPP upgrades.

Our terms are based upon the impact of the respective modifications upon vehicle performance (usually assessed using BHP), along with the comparative cost to replace (as these would be covered under like for like replacement where damaged or stolen).

In our experience, whilst this varies between Underwriters the PPP does not increase premiums with us by that much and would certainly not be having a 'killer' effect on your premiums :thumb:

Same old service from Greenlight. Thought I'd give them a try only to be told that because the car has been off the road for 10 months I dont have enough experience of driving a high performance car.

I did eventually get a quote but it was almost double what I last paid.

I've never had good experience with these looks like that continues to be the case.

fred388 11 November 2011 01:19 PM

just had a qoute from yourselves there, beat A-PLAN by £50 and keith michaels renewal by £170

very pleased

Tony@Greenlight 11 November 2011 01:34 PM

Hi Daz,

Sorry that we were uncompetitive for you.

Covering a 600BHP model Impreza that has been off the road for 10 months is not the easiest prospect, as most Insurers have a requirement for current driving experience.

This had led to our our main schemes not being able to quote with this type of gap in cover.

I have spoken with our advisor who handled your call. He explained that he had referred your outline detail to our technical team, who gave an indication, but the gap in cover has left us with reduced options and this was the influencing factor with the price.

Kind regards

Tony

will be happy to give you guys a shot at renewal time in feb its a good thread read and as have modified will be interesting to see what you can offer

Bicco 11 November 2011 01:59 PM

Spoke to these guys today, Impresive quote, long list of mods covered, descent history with the car seems to help. I`m a tad early for re-newel, but will be giving em a call shortly. :)

chrisdicko 11 November 2011 02:18 PM

I'm currently with Greenlight, can't fault their service up to now :)

R12CYS 11 November 2011 04:03 PM

Due for renewal 2012 march, see how it goes... The ppp mod rose my premium by 200 quid.

Cammy5106 11 November 2011 04:19 PM

Nice to see a insurance provider trying to help rather than rip us off for driving a Scooby..

Just taken out a new policy too but I will defo give you a shout for a quote when my renewal is due ...

syko89 11 November 2011 04:31 PM

Ah shame im not 25 yet

stealthy55 11 November 2011 05:56 PM

whoops forgot about you, re-insurance, only pace ward would insure me, clean licence max ncb etc, just one word put them all off, im sure you will know what that is, will ring for a quote @ renewal:)

MZP 11 November 2011 09:10 PM

Will give you a call as just about to (hopefully) buy a WRX PPP.

Would I be OK if I had a dullsville Volvo as my daily driver, but also have a 231 RX-8 and a supercharged MX-5 tucked up in the garage? Have a long history of performance cars, but had a year 'out' with using the volvo as a daily driver.

PS, I'm 35 with full NCB.

daz1968 11 November 2011 11:36 PM

I can't see imported models on the link provided so does that mean its not worth a call when the renewal on my my05 jdm sti comes up.

Razorwrx1 13 November 2011 10:13 PM

Hi Tony, Mines up end of Jan. I'll give you a call after Xmas buddy!

Do you Insure near Manchester? All on here don't. I'm currently with A Flux. Had the car 3 years now.

Tony@Greenlight 14 November 2011 04:07 PM

Hi Simba,

Thanks for the support (and for the kind comments about the thread read).

Modifications are no problem, we're modification friendly (ie. understand the impact of the respective modification and the merit for carrying out the modification) meaning we rate sensibly.

Individually damaged or stolen after market parts are also covered properly on a like for like replacement basis.

We are able to quote up to 30 days ahead, so when your renewal notice hits the mat/inbox in January you can give us a try then.

You can apply online at www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk or via the telephone by calling 01277 376000 :thumb:

Kind regards

Tony
