Rooted Galaxy s2 options

im running 2.3.4 on standard rom updated on kies and it says it is current version. im not sure when the 2.3.5 update will be out for me.

i keep thinking about changing the rom.

have seen this guide from a link on this forum and i think one person from here has done it and used villainrom

http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-ro...oot-galaxy-s2/

thanks
ian

simple to do. have a look on xda developers section there with roms mods and guides

Mogsi 09 November 2011 04:41 PM

Not worth the hassle if you're only doing it to get 2.3.5. Most of the changes are in the background and not visual..

Thats half the fun of a new rom, the background tweaks make the foreground ones more fun :)

That said my origianl galaxy is just about to be flashed back to stock and sold

Scotsman 10 November 2011 05:05 PM

Villainrom 3.0 for me, only one i have ran on the S2, and i`m leaving it put until somebody releases ICS :)

Ian 11 November 2011 07:56 PM

im going to do this soon (root) like in this vid

http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-ro...oot-galaxy-s2/

what would i need to do next to put the villainrom 3.0 on please?

Ian 11 November 2011 10:17 PM

now its rooted

backed up with the clockwork mod

im going to get the titanium app to back up apps etc

then get a new rom

one thing though, i still have the orange triangle on the start up,

if i flash the original kernel, the triangle goes and start up looks standard but i also lose the clockwork backup mod. i reinstall clockwork, the the triangle is back... hmmm

jaytc2003 12 November 2011 07:51 AM

there are guides in the sites you have mentioned to get rid of the triangle :)

Scotsman 12 November 2011 09:23 AM

Worth buying a USB Jig off ebay to get rid of the triangle plus it also resets the counter that lets Samsung know you've flashed the rom. Only costs around £1.25 - and I bought it from this seller - came within the week.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Jig-Do...#ht_2524wt_902

Also handy in case you brick the phone.

Ian 12 November 2011 01:26 PM

I done it like in the vid but it didn't work. and would not let me get into clock work mode, so had to put the hack version on.

that jig sound lik a good idea.but do you lose anything from using it?

Not that I'm aware of. Quite a few threads on the XDA forums about them.

Ian 12 November 2011 06:32 PM

cool, i have just ordered one, i think i read on xda that it doesnt work anymore to reset the counter though, but could be wrong.

as of now (rooted, standard rom) and later on (custom rom) will i need to use kies again? or would it mess things op?

any roms that you would recomend?

Scotsman 12 November 2011 08:38 PM

I'm using VillianRom 3.0 - very happy with it and not bothered with any others.

Just started using Dialer One - https://market.android.com/details?i...ialerOne&hl=en - which I prefer to the standard dialer.

I've not used Kies yet - flashed it all with Odin instead.

Ian 13 November 2011 06:30 PM

my android version is 2.3.4(stock rom) does this mean i can only get the villainrom 2.4, as is the villainrom 3.0 for the 2.3.5?

Ian 13 November 2011 08:00 PM

VallainRom 3.0 is all up and running woop

Scotsman 14 November 2011 07:03 AM

Nice :-)

Ian 14 November 2011 08:33 AM

it may be me but i have noticed that swype isnt as good and the battery isnt lasting as long. i think it was better on the rooted standard rom.

anyone else find this?

mike1210 14 November 2011 09:10 AM

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1124396

Cognition ROM for me, use 1.51 though:)

Ian 14 November 2011 11:29 AM

i have read somewhere it is down to the kernel about the battery?

on a rooted phone, is there much difference between the stock rooted rom and villainrom 3.0?

Ian 14 November 2011 06:52 PM

am trying Batista70 FOXHOUND EDITION 2.5 rom now

first impresionsare that it is very nice, think i like this abit more than the villainrom so far
