Afterburner backbox- how to restore shine ?
 

Okay guys, Afterburner backbox is still to be fitted so would be an ideal time to get it looking its best !! so okay any tips on getting the rather now dull looking finish back to new again, would a polishing mop work okay on something this shape or are best results going to be had by hand ?? any decent metal polish do the job ?

Autosol and a rag do the business for me.

Okay no probs thanks for that , once cleaned how well does the shiny finish normally last ?? appreciate its not the time off year to be talking about shiny boxes !! but after a quick wash does the shine normally reappear okay ?

Youll have to keep on top of it every few weeks at this time of year, but it will come up ok with a wash.

Don't use stuff like Autosol on cromed finishes it is an abrasive and permenantly dulls the finish. Use a three stage polishing kit, you can get a good one from halfrauds.

Yep thats the kit but only part of it. The full kit has coarse grade wheel, medium grade and fine grade. Each grade has its own different colour stick to use, like the white one in that picture.

The guide on DW you linked is ok for quick and easy results but you will lose the mirror finish. Get up close to it and you would see - read the back of the tubes and it says not for use on mirror finish, same goes for equivilent products from Meguires and AutoGlym.

I would give you a link to the kit but I'm on my mobile and it's a ball ache.

get some astonish for kitchenware,worked wonders on mine.......

He is right also, household silver cleaner will get a good shine.
