Killed my bug eye
Hi guys got a 52 wrx bug eye ! Was on the way home on Sunday giving it some beans and it threw up a management light ! Plugged into it next day and it said cylinder one miss fire ! I replaced the coil pack and spark plugs this hasn't cured the very slight miss it has low down ! After further investigation found abpipe broken on the purge valve so replaced this and it's still the same ! I have carried out a compression test and cylinder 1 is nearly at 8bar cylinder 3 is at 9bar yet 2 and 4 are at a strong 10bar ! Seems as if the left bank is down poss head gasket or valve ? Any suggestions ? Thanks Tom

Don't know much about it but out of interest what should the compression be, even 8 bar is 120 something psi still seems alot
regardless of the overall compression, which I think 10 bar sounds about right the pressures need to be the same across all four within maybe 1/2 bar.
were they all done warm and on wide open throttle as you should do ? |
Was done cold ! Haven't wanted to fire it up to much !
looking at removing the engine ! someone said to engine and box it as one out the bottom is this the way to go as all ive seen on here is everyone taking it from the top box left in ? i have also got to put a clutch in it at the same time so ?
Doesn't take long to take it out of the top mate, leave the box in.
ok mate looks like thats my task then over few days ! not looking forward to it !
Just hope I don't do all this work and it turns out its something different !

Engine sat already to be lifted out If only I could split it from the box ! Have removed the clutch fork arm pin! And all bolts that I can see , think it may be just stuck on the dowels?
surely further tests before engine removal woulda been better plan.
If it's down on compression on the left bank it's got issues ! So didn't see the point in messing around and was in contact with a chap at the main dealer and said it's either valves or head gasket !
Could also be a broken ring land. Only way to know for sure is engine removal and to remove heads. I hope the damage is not too bad.

heads are now off ! head gaskets all good, not much movement on the rings no scored bores so tested valves and they are leaking so this must have been the cause of my slight compression loss ! also found upon removal the turbo to have a lot of play on the the shaft and its starting to score the inside off the turbo so thats fecked !
