New PC time

Time for a new PC again, what do you guys thinks of this base rig, I can't find or think of anyway to beat this price bar an ebay special for this type of spec. Even if I built it myself I think I would struggle to beat £450 inc VAT ?

Basics:
CIT Shadow ATX Case
Intel Core i5 2500K Processor overclocked to 4.6GHz
Asus P8Z68-V LE Motherboard
4GB PC3-10666 DDR3 Memory
AMD Radeon 6670 1GB Graphics Card
1000GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disk
24x Sony DVD-RW Drive
500watt Basic EZCool PSU
Onboard High Definition Audio
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM

Probably needs a juicier vid card but I'm not a massive PC gamer anymore.

Components can be customised of course, for not alot more, could have Corsair RAM etc.

Got a couple of mag bestbuys to.

cmon need some opinions before I decide to buy it...

jura11 04 November 2011 01:44 AM

In my view perfect buy,but i would add more RAM,if you are looking to do more demanding programs like AutoCad etc.Plus SSD will help too

But anyway great spec for this good price.

Nice find, I'm tempted myself! :thumb:

bioforger 04 November 2011 02:14 AM

thanks, order goin in tomorrow then ;)

CREWJ 04 November 2011 11:08 AM

That is very good value. Best match I could get is £575. I would say that the RAM is really low for modern day computing and the graphics card is already, pretty much obsolete.

Other than that it should be a good computer. This all really depends on what you intend to use it for.

TonyBurns 04 November 2011 08:31 PM

Thats a good price considering hdd's have gone through the roof, that one would be worth around 150 quid on its own

Tony:D

bioforger 04 November 2011 08:44 PM

I upped the RAM to Corsair, a better case, better PSU for more HDD's, bluetooth, card reader all in for 575

jaytc2003 04 November 2011 11:29 PM

nice :D

the PSU and Vid card stuck out for me, good to see you have already sorted the PSU

ATI 6950 is quite a good card for the money

Well this graphics card is the equivalent of that.

EddScott 07 November 2011 04:30 PM

Sounds good - although I've never really got on with ATI cards. I'm an NVidia man myself.

bioforger 07 November 2011 05:51 PM

I was to until the recent driver release which borked my cpanel

Noway, 9800 is uber old, the raddy kicks its ass in pretty much all areas. And its DX11 9800 is only DX10.

I specc'd up the PC I'd want from that site (fancy as quiet a pc as possible with a BF3 busting gfx card). Ended up at just shy of a grand :o which is quite a fair chunk for just a base unit.

I'm sure it is, but my remit was to get the best spec for circa £500 :)

Neanderthal 07 November 2011 09:26 PM

Your sub £500 new pc will be better than my chugging old Dell that's for sure.
I so rarely spend money on a PC I thought I'd see how much one would cost that would last me another 4 years :D
Will be interested to hear how quick it arrives Bio, and how it performs :thumb:

bioforger 07 November 2011 09:56 PM

8-12 days hopefully :thumb:

ALi-B 07 November 2011 11:18 PM

bioforger 08 November 2011 12:21 AM

9800 and 6670 are the same tier

bioforger 08 November 2011 05:51 PM

In real world terms 6670 is better, anyway its irrelevant to me PC gaming is a mugs game.

Neanderthal 14 November 2011 09:44 AM

Has it arrived yet? Noticed that ChillBlast were recommended in the Mail on Sundays Live mag for uber PC's!

bioforger 14 November 2011 05:50 PM

8-12 business days mate, bought it on the 4th.

bioforger 08 December 2011 09:10 PM

Well I've been on a bit of a journey with this one, fired it up all ok then bsod when finalising win7 setup :/ ok 2nd time round, then the gfx card kept crashing and resetting itself  Chillblast were on the ball n sent out a replacement card which never arrived, thanks to royal mail  Card #2 was then sent thx again to CBlast which then arrived late again thx to the twats @ RMail. Anwyway that fixed the problem and I can report it now absolutely flies. Ran imgburntest on it oc'd @ 4.6ghz idle temps 40-45c, 32c stock on air, happy bunny :D I love the EZ bios on these new ASUS mobos, makes tweaking a joy.

Scotsman 08 December 2011 09:51 PM

Nice :-)

Just heard that my Chillblast machine will arrive before Xmas as they have taken on more staff - hurrah!!

bioforger 08 December 2011 10:30 PM

Cool :) Hopefully yours will just work when you get it lol. To be honest any PC that I've had delivered in the post has had some sort of problem. The couriers just don't seem to care too much about the parcels these days.

Word of advice, even though they have taken on more staff, getting through to them at the moment is a right ball ache. 10-15min wait on average, so use email to their sales addy if its not urgent.
