HTC Wildfire S e-mail problem

I know it is a bit of a girl's phone but it is all I need and I have it on an Orange contract £12.50 a month. I'm using HTC mail and I can receive mails from my usual account no problem but if I send nothing actually goes out. Any ideas?

What type of email account are you using, is it from Virgin Media or similar or is it web based such as Gmail or Hotmail?

Wife has the same phone (girls phone) and i set hers up so may be able to help

Ah good. Us girls must stick together, what's her number? ;) The phone has gmail on it as well and I have set that up but it seems you have to pay for it after two week trial. I have just put my karoo (kingston communications) pop account details into the htc mail app and mails are coming in fine but not going out??

Gmail should cost nothing, it's like hotmail, i've had a gmail account for 18 months and never paid?

In any case, from your email settings it appears your incoming settings are correct you need to check your outgoing server setings and check the
"SMTP Server" box is filled in correctly
Also the security type on the dropdown menu
and finally the server port number

You will have to check those details with your email provider but I will pretty much guarantee that somewhere you have entered an incorrect detail on that screen.

Took a bit of messing about with the wifes phone linking it to our Virgin Media account, much easier with web based accounts

Gmail sends and receives fine. It flagged up it was free for two weeks which I was surprised at as assumed was free like hotmail. See what hapens. Still faffing with HTC mail but still no sendy. Will call Orange.

Right, got it working now. Had to find the sub menu within a sub menu within a sub menu within a sub menu to sort the smtp. Now I can e-mail the hairdressers and order those flowers for the kitchen table. Hmm, maybe I should have got the Wildfire S in pink after all!
