Any exhaust fitters on here? Gasket advice needed

Evening all,

Have got a leak between my cat and centre section, thought it was the fire ring (donut gasket) but changed it tonight and it's still leaking.

Does anybody else think that these donut gaskets are a stupid idea?! Question is, can I dump the donut and use a standard 2.5 inch metal gasket on this joint?

Thanks in advance

James

The donut joint allows the exhaust to flex with engine movement without eventually fracturing, hence the springs to keep the tension on it should it move.

Did you use any sealing compound with the donut gasket ?

+ 1 for seal compound , usually leaks from top side if not applied

when you say leak, how bad?i fitted a cat back system recently and mine has a very very slight leak on the said joint but nothing to worry about.

It is leaking from the top as said above, I have ordered a gen Subaru ring from import car parts so will try this with lashings of sealant - any recommendations?

It's designed not to need any sealant. If sealant has been used before then that's probably the reason its now leaking.

You use the sealant around the exhaust after it is joined together to prevent any leaks. I have done this on 7 different exhaust in the last 2 yrs and never had a problem .

The titanic was designed not to sink ( but did ) nothing wrong with a bit sealant here "n" there - as long as u don't go overboard & use the whole tube :brickwall
