hi all just had full exhaust fitted to my 98wrx ,saw descent gains but problem is when i take it for a really fast run and come to a standstill the temperature gauge flies up near the h mark cool air comes thru the vents but when i rev the engine up the gauge drops back to where it usually runs and hot air comes thru the vents, there is no loss in power and no white smoke coming thru the exhaust, neither is there any water in the oil???no lumpy tickover to indicate loss of compression, just aint got a clue has anybody got any ideas??????????????or has the headgasket gone?to which am i looking at really big bill?any help appreciated thanx clive.

head gasket for defo

sounds like an airlock in the radiator mate.

check your water level,if its ok let it idle with the cap off and check for bubbles and the water level dropping,if it does then top it up and take it for a run.

if it does it again then it could be the head gasket!!!

muffitt.freeserve.co.uk:
It's one or both of your head gaskets.
Mine did this at about 50K miles.
Don't keep using the car as high temperatures will now possibly do:-
a) Deform block
b) Increase 'det' risk

I had both mine replaced, the heads skimmed, and the cambelt done at the same time, bill came to £815.19 (inc VAT).

Sounds like your head gaskets mate, mine went at 40k miles. It cost me over £1.5k  , but I don't like to talk about that... ;)

can anyone give me some reputable places to take the car?conclusion is the headgasket, funny my car has done 50k as well shepsplitter where did you get the work done??thanx clive.

Got mine done at Park Lane in Alton.
They tend to be very busy, but their engineer really knows his stuff.
Alternatively I'd use Power Engineering in Uxbridge.

It's funny, but I've had a number of turbo cars and they have all blown cylinder head gaskets around the 50Kmiles mark.
I guess there's only so long a gasket can take the pressure :-(
