OH MY DAYS!!!! COOLING... or lack of.

Hello everyone,

I am having another issue with the car overheating now...

It's fine in when moving, but when it's idling, it overheats... Then, this morning, I get into the car to go to work, I started the car from cold, after about 1 and a half mins the fan came on, but the temp wasn't even registering yet, as the car was still stone cold... So Turned it off, checked the coolant level both in the radiator cap and expantion tank, all ok, started the car again, this time, the cooling fan stayed on, but the check engine light stayed on.. So I am guessing I have a problem somewhere. Has anyone got any ideas?

water pump ?

Check for leaks by leaving some cardboard/paper under the car one night (and hope it doesnt rain).

Best way to bleed is with the two front wheels raised, so on a slope for example.

TBH, you DON'T bleed them. You drain, back-flush the rad if you've been having problems, check the thermostat, ditto, then refill with the correct mixture, (50% of an anti-freeze designed for alloy engines, with a corrosion inhibitor), but do it S L O W L Y, via the rearmost tube on the header tank, which you unclip first. Make sure the heater control is set to full hot BEFORE refilling.

Leave the header tank cap off, fill via a funnel, avoiding it "glugging", mine took nearly 20 minutes.

Then replace pipe, start engine, header tank cap off, look for bubbles in header tank, mop up or top up as required.

Once it's hot and no more bubbles appear, header tank cap on, drive round the block, heater still set to hot, let it cool and check levels again. Job SHOULD BE a good'un. But it DOES take TIME!

Ok so started it up tonight, and from freezing cold, the fan comes on straight away? Any further ideas people? BTW, thank you to everyone for replying.
