to rebuild or not to rebuild

Hi all i have just bought a subaru 03 wrx sti with a poorly engine i have stripped it completely and have been told by my engineers that the pistons have overheated and need replacing @ a cost of £400 but the i have everything else that goes with it. I was wondering would it be cheaper to rebuild or to buy a second hand engine or if you guys and gals have any more ideas

many thanks

best bet is rebuilding it, if you get it done by a company then you should also get a guarantee with it. Whilst its in bits you could upgrade the pistons to "future proof" the car :D Do you know why the engine failed in the first place as that needs to be addressed to prevent a repeat occurance

Depands on how deep your pockets are.

Sure, a rebuild is best, but could end up costing you a fair whack once everything is taken into account.

I was quoted from a guy in Wales last year, I can't for the life of me remember his name. He builds scooby engines for Rallying. He was going to do a blueprint rebuild for circa £1500 for me.

Hi mate. Did you get sorted in the end? We can do a full rebuild for you, either by bringing the car to us (or we can pick it up) or you can send us your bits and we can finish rebuilding it and send it back to you. It will be cheaper than you think!

There's more detail on our web site here.... Www.eclipse-performance.com/subaru

I'f you need any help let me know.

Cheers
Chris.
