ECU Explorer COM Port Issues
Hi guys, I've been using ECU Explorer for over a year now with no issues......but all of a sudden it just won't work and I'm getting this error......
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...orer-Error.jpg I've tried uninstalling and re-installing ECU Explorer and that makes absolutely no difference. My next thought was that the drivers to do with the virtual com port had gone funny so I went to my device manager to delete them so I could re-install them again, but my device manager looks like this..... http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...ce-Manager.jpg I don't even have a 'Ports (COM & LPT)' section?! I've tried plugging the cable into a different USB port on my laptop but still no difference. I'm a bit stuck now, and it's doing my head in. I've got a really long USB extension cable and I installed ECU Explorer on my parents' computer and tried it there. Worked first time no bother. But I don't fancy trying to drag their house around behind my car for data-logging so I really need to get it working on my laptop :p Any ideas would be hugely appreciated, cheers! :thumb: |
You are tried run as Administrator and install as Administrator?
Second thing you are tried on parents PC which assume have installed XP Jura |

Which i know some updates can harm of some programs, but not sure what is on yours, for data logging SW i've almost only used XP,due few issues with Vista or W7.
At first click on your icon with right click->Compatibility->thick Compatibility mode->try XP Service pack 2 or 3 or if you will run first time, try Run as Administrator Jura |
What cable are you using? My Taxtrix has it's own group 'Vehicle PassThru Interfaces' in the device manager. It's probably worth re-installing the drivers for the cable rather than EcuExplorer. Does the cable show in the 'Safely Remove Devices' icon on the taskbar?

uninstall/reinstall everything concerned

The cable I'm using is a "Gendan VAG-COM 409.1 KKL USB Interface", and it looks like this.....
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q..._4413669_n.jpg I can't really remember what happened when I first installed it on my Windows 7 laptop with regards to installing drivers. It didn't come with a disk or anything, it just worked. On my parents computer tho, it said it couldn't find the drivers and would I like windows to see if it could find the right ones online, so I clicked yes and it went away and found what it needed and it worked.

Try download driver from this link, hope so will work
http://www.gendan.co.uk/faq/409_win7.php http://www.gendan.co.uk/faq/index.php W7 or Vista on Laptops sometimes have problems with USB,try unplug all USB which you have and try everyone, sometimes is easy,on brother laptop which have before Vista have same problem with USB remembering Jura |
have a look at your restore points, and revert the laptop back to a point where you knew it was working. it will only update system files
windows is a bag of dick and updates wreck things rather than cure them |
