WRX rear wheel
 

I'm going to get a set of decent coil overs to lower my 2004 blob eye (on standard 17s). One thing I would like to correct is the way the rear wheel appears to sit inside the body work a little. Will the coilovers beable to correct this alone or do I need to fit some spacers as well? (and is that wise?) Thanks :)

you will need spacers to bring the wheel further out, giving you a wider track. but just a word of warning dont go to wide on spacers as you still need atleast five turns on the thread of the wheel nut i would say.i have known people to get away with two full turns but would not recommend it.

So why do STIs not have a similar look (or do they?) Would certain 18 wheels cure the problem without the need for spacers?

ermm.... not sure to be honest. having had a look on internet the best i can. the track difference between an sti and wrx is 5mm wide on the sti (could be wrong, if someone else could confirm) which my guess would be the sti alloys are possibly half an inch wider than wrx alloys(which are 7j) and have a different offset. again anyone with an sti could tell us the width and offset of standard rims would be helpful.

Well I fitted some 18" 7.5" wide alloys and the wheel now sits exactly as an STi wheel would perfectly flush with the bodywork - basically the standard WRX alloys are too narrow for the car, at the rear at any rate.

OEM STI alloy is 7.5 inches wide, ET 53mm and so fill the arches better.

I run an 8" rim with an ET of 44mm and it's fine with some added -ve camber...
