Just received a Posum Link V5 Group N with ALS.
My car is a MY99, with a lot modification, such
FMIC
IHI VF22
KN Direct Induction
BPM Exhaust with Twister Mkiii muffler; no cats
HKS pre-turbo extractors and uppipe
and other

Frankly speaking I am afraid to assembly the new ECU, considering some advises regarding the previsible damages that ALS will cause in a ball bearing turbocharger, as the VF22.

So, do anyone is currrently running the car with this function and are the refered problems a real fact?

Surely a ALK will destroy a road car. I thought the manifold would have to be substantially strengthened to cope with the explosive forces.
I thought that rally cars running ALK,s are virtually engine rebuilt after a number of stage miles. I think that rally cars run with the ALK off on road stages as well, probably because the car needs to cool down, the turbo isnt in demand and the noise would be classed as public nuisance!

Please correct me If im wrong. I just cant imagine this as being feasible on a road car. :) Hope I am wrong this would be the best mod I could ever imagine a full blown bang bang kit trundling up the high street!

Why not just disable ALS? :)

Check bbs.22b.com under (I think) engine. Don't recall the thread name, but there was a thread about ALS and road cars - with some pretty interesting / informed comment.

As far as i know, Anti lag keeps turbo spinning constantly! I wouldnt have thought that it damages the manifold but i do know that a standard turbo charger will not last very long when anti lag is activated.
Must say that anti lag is fun at the lights!!!!

An anti lag system will cause excessive wear and possibly damage to the turbo and exhaust manifold. This is due to the fact that the combustion of the fuel is occuring in the manifold and not inside the cylinders so the exhasut gas temperature goes above 1000 deg C and can cause enhanced corrosion and thermal stress.

Anti Lag Systems basically have an ignition system on the turbine side of the turbo! This ignition system constantly pressurizes the area between the wastegate and turbine! Hence no lag. Eventually an ALS will screw up your turbine blades, and your turbo!

Why would one want an ALS if you have a BB turbo anyway?

You don't have to have an ignition system on the exhaust side of the turbo. Quite a lot of systems just use the standard spark plugs and retard the ignition timing so much that the spark ignites when the exhaust valve is open. Other systems rely on the use of the hot exhaust manifold to provide the heat source for combustion and then there is the type that you mention that provide an extra ignition source (usually a spark plug) into the exhaust manifold.

Yeah...i just looked it up on www.rallycars.com (or is it .co.uk). They retard timing by upto 40 degrees though :). Fancy that!

Just switch it off???? If it is a full blown well programmed ALS chances are it well burn exhaust valves, destroy turbos, and destroy manifolds. With programming it can be tamed down, but still not really reccomended for a road car. so, just switch it off.

a mild version is going on my car but only for noise purposes not for anti lag performance. To be honest it is more difficult than most think as it requires a lot of air to get into the inlet manifold when the throttle is closed.
