Fuel Pump Wiring

It was suggested that I uprate the wiring to my fuel pump to eliminate the possibility that the OEM wiring will affect the performance of the pump.

Eventually I will fit a swirl pot, external pump and relay etc, but in the mean time the cheaper option is just to uprate the wiring to the current pump.

What size wire should I use? I guess the fuse needs uprating along with the wiring? When uprating it, does it go from the relay/fuse from under the dash (passenger side) all the way to the in-tank pump?

Thanks a lot

Hi mate, what is the current amp rating for original fuel pump fuse?
Also how many watts is the new fuel pump?
If you take the power consumption of the new pump and divide it by the volts, this will give you the amp rating, always go the fuse size up so for example if it were 100 watts then it would be 100 divide by 12 giving 8.3 amps next fuse size up would be 10 amps.
Providing the original fuse is up to the job then so should the wiring.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I haven't a clue if I'm honest, will have to email the place I bought the pump from (it's a HRC 290LPH).

Thinking about it, I'm going to leave the existing wiring there, which will power a SSR. Then run a new feed from the battery, with a fuse in line, then that feed will go to the SSR, and switch the in tank pump, and then eventually an external pump feeding a swirl pot.

Although that still doesn't help me with with cable and fuses size......
