Thanks for putting that up Andy, just one question is that for putting the defi style clocks into an earlier model?

First of all open link and print off picture.Locate wire B3 and cut leaving enough wire on either end. Next you need a 5 pin change over relay connect as follows term 85 any ignition live 86 cut wire from loom 30 earth 87a cut wire from clocks If you have problems with handbrake light term A2 needs an earth to turn off diff temp light B4 needs an earth. usual disclaimers at your own risk etc etc. i put some blob clocks in my bug and the 2 usual lights were on permantly so i did as andy suggested here and it didnt work, havent tried the handbrake one yet but my abs light still stays on???????????????? so is different for blob to bug?????????????? anyone |
I have done this on several cars and it works. If you have done it as above you should hear relay click on when you turn ignition on then click off after 2 or 3 secs.Have you checked abs circuit reversal circuit needed some WRX clocks dont need it.

no i havent heard the relay click on and off i assume it needs reversing cos when you turn the ignition on the light comes on after a couple of seconds and stays on, i wonder if i have a duff relay? |

Sounds like a problem with the relay, assume you've checked the fuse for the live feed:wonder:
didnt put a fuse in, do i really need one? |

Bit of an update chaps, I've not attempted the re-wiring just yet but had a bit of a brain-wave (of sorts) last night.. I was planning to disable my ABS soon anyway as I'm just not keen on it, but then thought if the ABS light is ON with the fuse in, will it go out when I take fuse out??
Voila... It does.. :) So I now have STI clocks, disconnected ABS and no light.. :) |
The only problem you'll have now is your MOT, if you wish to disable your ABS you need to remove it completely, remove the ABS pump and have new brake lines made to run were they previously ran through the ABS pump. Otherwise the MOT tester will not see the ABS light come on to indicate a self-test - if you put the fuse back in the light won't go out and voila, fail!!!
All in the new eco-cozy 2012 MOT regs:mad: |
lol good point well made but it'll be fine for another 11 months.. :) obviously i will be following Andys' rewiring instructions in good time..

Will blob sti clocks go into a blob wrx with no wiring problems?

Guys, i have installed my Hawk STi Clocks into my WR1, looks mint with the amber defi's.
looking for a little help, im a computer geek, not a mechanic nor auto spark but i will give most things a try myself first if i feel i wont damage the car. fitted clocks and the following has happened. DCCD - Fine as the 1 has DCCD and is working as expected from the lighting perspective. Rear Diff Temp- light illuminates on ignition on and turns off on engine start. Hand Brake light - on as expected and i plan to talk to an auto spark after talking to you guys. ABS Stays on as expected and i plan to talk to an auto spark to get the relay fitted. Questions are as follows. I went to maplin to ask for a normally closed relay switch, which i found out after trawling the boards on NASIOC (Epic) and you guys reference here, but when i went there he asked me what ampage did i want ? can anyone clarify what ampage is needed, he said its probably 40A but i would like to get the nod from you guys, i don't doubt the chap but he works in maplin not on cars. second is in regards to the handbrake light, which i have a few questions about. 1. its said that it needs an earth (B3) what does this mean, do i splice a ground to it, or do i ground the cable from the loom. (did say i am not car technical but im trying) 2. will this make the light work as expected. on when handbrake engaged and off when disengaged. or will this just ground the light out as new MOT rules will fail a car for not having the lights working as they should. its maybe that this is clear to most but im not sure what all the advice by GC8Andy is actually meant to do. E.g. C9 on a Blob and A9 on a Bug silences the constant buzzing. if someone can take the time to clarify these points for me, id be happy to PayPal gift you a few beers on successful completion. i don't expect to walk into a thread and just get what i need without appreciating the information given to me. thanks in advance |
Hope this helps..
Hi, just read through the 'old' part of the thread, it looks as if Sedge had connected the lamp feed to the normally open contacts of the relay, hence when energised it closed the contacts and light came on. I guess he has it sorted by now :)
But I thought it may help you out. from what i can see the relay is just to solve the dash lamp issue, if thats the case then a 1A relay is plenty, or something around that rating. Its only operating the bulb (if i have read and understood correctly). An earth in a car is almost always (ground) -ve. So if the instruction is to earth the cable or terminal, then connect it to the nearest earth point on the car body. It depends where the -ve (ground) is applied in the circuit; that will determine if the handbrake light operates correctly or not. Hope thats of some help!! |

Glad its all good!

Sorry to hijack but I have an issue with the ABS light staying on with a code 52 - everything has been checked as per IM Subaru diagnostics manual and all is well.
I don't suppose there is something I can look at to fix this?! |

are all the issues sorted razor, seems abs and what not is,
what about the handbrake light, does that work as normal, if not, next MOT is a fail mate. new rules as of jan 01 screws this mod up unless we can team together and get it locked down. |
