The Android orphans...

The announcement that Nexus One users won’t be getting upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich led some to justifiably question Google’s support of their devices...

It's not like my contract doesn't run out every 18 months, then upgrade time :D

ChefDude 27 October 2011 05:09 PM

I didn't mention iphones - that's not why i posted this.

P1Fanatic 27 October 2011 05:12 PM

Jack will love this :)

It's a bit obvious but well presented. Android users don't care, they'll throw the cheap plastic out and get a "Free" upgrade.

I'm still stinging a bit from buying a 4S as my 3GS is still amazing me most days. It's ring to my old Mum at Christmas. iCloud will work for her too.

i can't believe the wifes desire hd isn't getting ICS 4.0, it's not even that old.

poor show google

Its a moot point really....

The developers are allready waiting for the roms to be released, so they can start porting to other devices. Thats the benefit of open source

Notice the skewed graphic omits the Galaxy and Galaxy S lol

Fact is Apple only have 4 phones and 5 operating systems

Android have hundereds of phones running up to 7 operating systems, so its hardly suprising that some are going to get ommited. Thats life

isnt some of this down to the handset makers/operators, i know the desire wasnt gonna get an upgrade until the owners started a petition..
even tho its pretty much the same as the N1 which got the update straight away. (2.3 i think at the time)

also i know people have already been running ICS on the N1, tho found it abit laggy

The Nexus One is the only Google phone on that chart. The rest is down to the manufacturers to bring out official updates. And as stated, the chart only shows official updates, but as it's open source it will end up on most devices anyway. My old Hero, which is now the girlfriends, is running Android 2.3.7. I switch my Desire HD between a 2.3.5 Sense based ROM and a 2.3.7 based one. I will be installing ICS as soon as possible.

So does mine. If I get a text message, then click on messsages to see it, it now takes a few seconds before the message even appears.

Wished I'd never bothered upgrading to ios5

JackClark 28 October 2011 09:15 AM

SMS Notifications can be a bit slow, in my case only if I'm there and looking at the screen, and react to them instantly, you can of course turn them off for individual services and you're off at full speed again.

IWatkins 28 October 2011 04:53 PM

Who cares about the Nexus One anyway? Anybody doing real development has been using the Nexus S for ages (the official Google development phone now).

With hardware moving on so fast on Android phones and with Android itself moving to a common code base for phones/tablets/other it's no surprise to me that older phones won't get the latest version as they cannot support the OS.

Anyway, what is it with phones that gets everyone excited about a new OS's? If you bought a PC/Mac etc. you wouldn't expect a new OS for free after you bought it.

As for the iPhone being all green. Yep, you can put ios5 on your 3x iPhone, but don't bother unless you really need the fixes/software it provides. Eldest son has a 3S that is now ruined with ios5 on it, dog slow.

Lots of people complaining on various forums about IOS5 if you bother to dig about.

As for phones getting/not getting Android 4, as IWatkins says, technology is moving on at a rate of knots. The only thing you want to worry about with an older phone is if any real problems get fixed or not. If you want the latest and greatest OS, get a new phone ....
