Tyres ..... again XL or Not?
Hi, I'm looking to change my tyres and looking at a number of different brands and reading lots of good advice and opinions.
However, does anyone know whether I should fit XL (Extra Load) or SL (Standard Load) tyres on a Hawkeye wagon? I'm running 18inch prodrive alloys and non XL tyres are not that easy to find especially if I want a quality replacement tyres with decent performance. Any advice? |
XL is best imo on a hawkeye. The stronger sidewalls will give a sharper steering response

Just giving both sides :) |
I don,t find the ride harsh in my car tbh, I run pirelli p zero nero,s 18" XL. On my second set too.

I must confess, I was worried about effecting the ride. Its running Goodyear Eagle F1 (chevron pattern) which are past their best. The ride is OK but I understand that the sidewalls are softer than some of the XL rubber.
Decisions decisions !!!! |
If you drive hard and think you would notice the difference, the stronger sidewalls are worth it. On toyo T1r's on a hillclimb, I had tread wear half way up the sidewall- these cars are very demanding in that respect.
Profile will make more of a difference on comfort- I run 40 and its not too bad. |
