Sorry not a scoob question my WRX is fine!

My runabout car golf GTI 1989 very recently acquired was veering off to the left at any speed over 30mph. Had the tracking adjusted which was quite a way out but the car is still pulling left. The car has been lowered considerably without matching dampers.
I understand that this can upset steering geometry?
The car doesnt appear bent but it also squeels as i corner

The inner tread on the front and rear tires on the left side has been scrubbed off from corrective steering (or the tires swapped around) any suggestions most welcome

Don't know really, check your balljoints I had one go on my Saab and it made things interesting to say the least.

I'd try swapping your front tyres side to side first, then roadtest it, see if it pulls to the right, if it does, get two new tyres!

It's prolly worth checking to make sure you don't have a brake seizing up aswell whilst it's on the jack.

You'll of check the tyre pressures won't you?

Did you get the geometry done at a trusted place ?

Mate of mine had his done at a place I won't mention, and the car was literally undriveable and scrubbed his outer ns edge in about 200 miles.

When I sent him to a proper place, they said it was so far out, it was the worst they had ever seen.

yeah i was going to try swapping tyres diagonally unfortunately they are directional. I am desperately loooking for somewhere local that can do a geometry alignment on all 4 wheels.
Yes I agree the wear on the tyres will influence its direction so I think I am going to replace the whole suspension and all tyres.

This is interesting - experiencing a similar prob on my daily runaround a zetec focus...

I have different tyres on the back ( makes and tread pattern and wear ), but this problem has only occured recently.

Essentially at any higher speeds 70 - 90mph, there is a wobble on the steering, I can only describe as a tugging from the left then the right - almost as if a wheel is binding and then releasing, but it can be quite violent.. Now what could it be ????

i) Could it be tracking / toe in - out on the front.
ii) Tyres on back.
iii) Something else.

Any advise gratefully received !

paul that sounds like a wheel balence problem if the wheel is out of balence you feel a lot of vibration at that speed

If it's at one speed it's probably tyre balance.

If anything over 30mph then it could be Tracking, worn track rod bushes, problem with a limited slip diff, or mabe just a loose nut behind the wheel ;o)
