SSD 120GB

Well just bought 1 after my 60GB ssd is just too small, ive tried for over a year to live with 60 but it really just isnt big enough even with 4TB of old school spinners alongside it, they just slowly fill up

so ive read reviews and read reviews and OCZ always seemd to win but i didnt want to fork out that much, also the firmwares on the OCZs seem to get slated

so i got a Corsair Force 3 which is As fast if you have Sata 3 it does 550MB, i dont so i bottlekneck at 245 ish.

but i have to say its very quick even at that alot faster than my old GSKILLS ripjaw.

and only 127 quid

I haven't take the plunge for an SSD yet. They still seem too expensive for the gain that you get.

When you can buy a 1TB disk for £40, 120gb for £130 well...

well until you use one youll never know

I have also tried going back to 1 drive like yours and even 2 drives raid 0 but i come back to SSD, boot times are faster but thats not where i like them, i couldnt careless for that, where it does work is when you login, and the time it takes for you to actually be able to do anything , i call it the warmup, as your disk gets fuller that time gets longer and longer, the icons take longer to stablize etc, its hard for me to explain, but try one youll notice it, things just work quicker with them pretty good experience. Ot impressed me and i was sat with you on that fence up until a year ago.

I'll be waiting too till the prices drop. Don't see the point in having them in my mac.

How much for you old 60gb?

CREWJ 17 October 2011 08:12 AM

I'm considering a Crucial M4. They seem to have great reviews.

I switched over to an OCZ Vertex 2E in February and it was the best upgrade I've ever made. I was initially dubious about the gains I'd see and initially had some issues with the drive not being recognised in the bios (it had panic locked itself and needed to be RMA'd) but was blown away bu the performance.

It needs a bit of careful disk space management, since it's only 60Gb, but it's well worth it. Will upgrade to something bigger and faster when I upgrade my mobo in the future.

The 500GB ssd in my mbpro is coming up to 2 years old now and is still fast as fook, I'd never get a pc or mac without an ssd now.
