i wanna learn how to drift help please
 

hello i know its not every ones cup of tea but i have got permission from the airfield near me that i can use it mon-fri to do what i like on it its got mud,gravel,and tarmac well i been mucking about on the gravel and mud but wouldnt wanna mess my tyres up on the tarmac so is there any particular tyres or any other mods i need to do to my car to be able to drift and have a little slide about safely without wrecking my car

i got a 2002 bugeye impreza

I would start with a second set of wheels and some worn tyres

does it really mess the wheels up and i can get worn tyres for nothing so thats a good start haha

I'd be looking for a new rear diff and gearbox if I were you.

DCCD is switchable centre diff, 4wd or RWD as fitted to Type R's etc

a baffled sump would probably be a good idea too

DCCD is that 100% switchable to the rears?
What are the inbetween options?

Why are we all not on this airfield?

y will i need a new rear diff will it mess that up aswell as the gearbox ?

well i just drove onto the airfield with no permission and some bloke came upto me and said what the f**k u doing so i said pissing about in my car rather than doing it on the road

he just said well i keep this place up n running so i apolagised and he just said u acn use it between mon-fri but u must be conciderate and only use it daylight hours and i dont want groups of u up here just 1 or 2 of u and we are not to wreck the grass so i just carried on pretty much ( hope he was the owner/manager whatever he was )

Man that's real nice of him, i'm hugely jealous, London's got Heathrow but we're not allowed on there lol.

im gonna work on the weekend thing i think offering him some £££ might get an odd saturday or sunday haha

You don't need dccd or sumps. or airfield. Just a corner. Tarmacs perfect, you need the car to grip when you put it into the corner point the car the direction the road goes out, DO NOT take the foot off when it starts sliding, us the power to pull you out.

Just try and be fearless,as above don't let of the power when it starts sliding as it will end up in tears:freak3:

I'd throw a grand at an old S13 or the likes- drifts can be had at lower speeds ;)

so should i maybe invest in a pair of bald tyres lol

i always learn the hard way in many more ways than just this lol

i just wanna learn how to drift the subaru as its what i drive so if i do ever slide out which is not likely atleast i know i can well maybe control it and make it look like i know what im doing haha

for those of us who don't have use of an airfield, snowy carparks can be a great place to learn this at low speeds. Since doing so a couple of years ago the skills I learned have saved my (car's) skin a few times. of course snowy carparks don't crop up very often in the UK.

plus dccd only moves the power forward to the front, when the dccd is set furthest back it is the same as a normal box, ie open diff

If you want to drift properly ditch the scoob and get a rwd car maye s14 etc.

to drift a 4wd car you need power and commitment to high speed entries

I used to drift and love it had a s14a and 350z but I wouldn't think about it in the scoob unless ice on the road lol have had a lil play and it just undrsteers massivly before the rear trys to break free not a nice feeling

As said by a. Heap rwd car if you get in driftworks you can pick up some old.Volvo's more than capable and perfect for what you want then if yiu enjoy it you can invest more money in a more capable car

...pr you can get yourself another centre diff and weld that up and fit that in depends how good yiu are with a set of spanners

There are also a few companies that make replacement spools for the centre diff that alow all power to go gm the rear end.

Either of these options will put strain on your rear diff so ivestment in a r180 diff and drjve shafts might be required

With a dccd car or at least my v3 type r put the hand brake on the first click and it is 100% rear wheel drive only:thumb:

& the money he'd have to throw at his bug to get 1 he could buy a s14 & thrash that round leaving the scoob for dialy driving

Are you sure as I've got the same car and my handbook says different ?
