Lambda Wont Budge - Help!!

Hi all

As some of you will be aware my car failed the MOT the other day, the worst thing being emissions. Well a few people have suggested the Lambda because of my symptoms so thats what i am going to change first, only problem being mine is stuck fast! I have a 1995 car so it is located in the manifold under the engine so not that easy to get to!

I have tried heating it, plus gas and good old fashioned grunt but no luck! Can anyone advise me what i need to do to remove the old one, i cant re-test my car like it is.

Thanks in advance.

David

I had to use a decent 22mm spaner ring spanner with a ft or so of pole on it to loosen mine. Dont use a lamda socket. They just slip

Probably better to get the front higher up and then use a longer bar

hi just wondered if yours is a 95 wrx and if it was registered before 31st july 1995 according to mot paperwork then it does not need a cat test,a non cat test is performed at idle in which lambda is not measured.
limits are 3.5% CARBON MONOXIDE and 1200 ppm max HC level.
id suggest you do the lambda but if it fails ask them to show to check they are using the correct values or pm me as im a tester.
see http://www.motuk.co.uk/images/cat1.pdf - there is no match for wrx import upto 31st july 1995 so gos non cat test.

lambdas can be right old pain in the asses to get out,i've had the exhaust glowing orange with heat before it would move.

Keep soaking it with wd40 every 30mins or so and then try again after a few hours.

It was registered 10th March 1995, just read your link though and it says if there is an exact match for car in analyser database which i should think mine is in there then to use those limits, the limits are only set at 3.5% and 1200 when there isnt a match

You need to take the headers off, put the lambda in a vice after making it White hot, then it might come out. They are twats, they either come out first go or fight to the death.

Got it off! A longer swing on a bar and a 54 year old bloke done the trick :-)

if yours is a wrx import there is no match ,so it will not need to meet catalyst defaults of 0.30 co and 0.97-1.03 lambda or 200 ppm hc.
mention this to the tester as he/she may have not been testing long and assume your your is uk spec 96 on?? from memory theres uk/rb5/p1 but definetely no wrx option David.
id get your lambda sensor done still though as it will be at a safer afr when cruising.

ok heres the options for a classic as version 17 of the database,as you can see no wrx import option and thus no match :)
only p1/turbo2000/1.6/1.8/2.0 (5 options only)

The Lambda is done.

Mine is a UK 95 car so I assume it's on the register?
