Life In The UK: Could You Pass The Citizenship Test?

Yesterday David Cameron unveiled changes to the Life in the UK citizenship test, which must be taken by all those seeking indefinite leave to remain or who apply for a British passport. Could you pass the test as it stands?

I failed dismally :lol1:

boxst 12 October 2011 02:44 PM

My wife passed it a little while ago (She is Polish). The questions were very specific and you really needed to read the book.

My thoughts were at least it is better than nothing. It shows that you need some comprehension of English to be able to read the book and then subsequently interpret the questions and pass.

TelBoy 12 October 2011 02:50 PM

Some of those are ridiculously obscure statistical trivia :lol1:

Ah, there's a book you have to read? Well that changes everything then.

Coffin Dodger 12 October 2011 02:58 PM

:lol1: 11 out of 24 - better start looking for a new country to live in :D

No 23 about Halloween, I'd have thought hide from them is okay too, that's what we've been known to do :lol1:

TelBoy 12 October 2011 03:01 PM

I answered "all of the above" to the Hallowe'en one :smug:

Leslie 12 October 2011 03:19 PM

I think a better test of one's deservedness of British citizenship is the person's character and attitude towards others.

12 out of 24 but I disagree with some of the answers. To pick one ' the visiting a hospital without a GP's letter' I can prove in many ways that it is perfectly possible to visit a hospital without a GP's letter. Now if they meant is it possible to visit a hospital for treatment and without an appointment or a GP's letter then they might be on to something.

Les

If you expect integrity and good manners Les then you had better get rid of most of the population of the North of England. ;).

CREWJ 12 October 2011 03:37 PM

9/24 hahahha

A work colleague took this test a few months ago and he got full marks. It seems it's a revision exercise.

ChefDude 12 October 2011 04:01 PM

14/24 - fail.

it's a better idea for GCSE English to be a requirement.

as long as i can communicate with people, i don't give a stuff if they they know who cromwell was.

dpb 12 October 2011 04:03 PM

Categorically no chance :(

feck sake my zim girlfriend could do better ( she does have a couple of degrees ) - its a bizzare way of weeding out otherwise totally reasonable candidates

spender(again) 12 October 2011 04:07 PM

I'll get me coat................
11/24

David Lock 12 October 2011 04:43 PM

I put b) down as the correct answer

a) 1650

b) no one can remember

c) 1651

d) 1652

Oh and the question was "When was Bruce Forsyth born?"

:brickwall dl

PaulC72 12 October 2011 05:36 PM

hmm 12 out of 24, they are hard if you don't read the handbook lol.

Does that now mean I can move to the USA?

Frosticles 12 October 2011 05:53 PM

9 PMSL :luxhello:

kingofturds 12 October 2011 06:08 PM

11.How they can use statistical bull**** government data as questions is beyond me.

GlesgaKiss 12 October 2011 06:16 PM

What are all the obscure questions about? I failed it miserably.

You'd think they'd ask more important questions, like "do you enjoy blowing sh*t up - people for instance?".

AndyC_772 12 October 2011 06:18 PM

It's b*llocks, isn't it. How about "Do you have the attitude and the means to make a positive contribution to British society?" - answer 'yes' or 'no'.

DCI Gene Hunt 12 October 2011 06:20 PM

You scored 10 out of a possible 24

You have failed, the pass mark was 75% According to the Life in the UK Test, you have insufficient knowledge of the English language or of life in the UK to remain.

Gets coat :(

johnlogie 12 October 2011 06:23 PM

I got 9 out of 24 lol

DYK 12 October 2011 06:28 PM

10 out of 24 FAILED :lol1: although i wasn't really taking much interest in the questions.

Don't see what Halloween has to do with living in the UK either,i notice they left out Guy fawkes eh ;)..Is this the best they can come up with.

Funkii Munkii 12 October 2011 06:30 PM

15/24, 4 of which were complete and utter guesses :lol1:

I counted 2 that I believed were mildly relevant to life in the UK.

Some ridiculous questions imo, I could write 24 far more relevant questions.

1: How much is incapacity benefit
2: You have £20 left from your Giro, how many cans of white lightening will this enable you to buy
etc etc

DYK 12 October 2011 06:55 PM

Or you have just arrived in the UK,haven't done a days work, what benefits are you entitled too.

(A) Nothing
(B) Everything

RobsyUK 12 October 2011 07:01 PM

I thought I was they most BRITISH person in the uk. I bet immigration will be braking my door down in the morning after tracking my I.P address...

I got 8 yes 8 OMG !!! I've never done so ****.

AshMurc 12 October 2011 07:07 PM

11/24. I rushed it a bit and didn't read some of the questions properly. I am confident i could have got 12/24!

jods 12 October 2011 07:56 PM

You scored 13 out of a possible 24
You have failed, the pass mark was 75% According to the Life in the UK Test, you have insufficient knowledge of the English language or of life in the UK to remain. What would you change about the test if you could? Head over to our open thread and let us know.

Pile o ****e and yet another huge waste of money.

Replace ALL the questions with

1. Are you a thieving cvnt
2. Can you support yourself financially for at LEAST 5 years
3. Do you have private medical insurance

If the answer is "No" to 2 or more of the above - Sling yer hook.

classicgc8 12 October 2011 08:10 PM

9 correct :(
