Poss overfueling & Non start on key

Hi all, I am very new to the world of subaru!

I am in the process of building a SDR V-Storm subaru kit car, See link.

http://sdrv-stormbuilddiary.blogspot.com/

I bought a 97 Impreza sti 555 for a donor car, I used this for two weeks & all ok!

The engine is now fitted to the Kit & it started first turn of the key, ran for 10 seconds then quit!

I tried numerous things to get it going but the only way I managed to restart the car was by tow starting.

It then ran fine for 10 minutes but left it for five hours & now it won,t restart.

I have 3bar of fuel pressure, A good spark & no fault codes with the ECL.

I do have fuel in the sump which is a concern!

Any advice would be great thanks.

sounds like overfueling if you have fuel in the sump, have u got a fuel pressure regulator fitted so u can adjust the fuel pressure

The car has got an after Market FPR fitted, that has a small gauge on & it reads 3bar when primed!

Does this sound to high?

dunno in all honesty maybe someone on here might no wat pressure they should be runing, but i wondered if you turned the pressure down slightly it might fire up.

Factory area 2.6bar.

Either wrong plumbing of fuel lines?

or did you have injectors out or any other part of engine stripped down?

Thanks for the advice.

I have gone over the plumbing of the fuel lines many times, & am very happy that the feed & return are correct.

I haven't stripped the engine or removed the injectors!

Hi, I have checked the CEL & no faults are stored!

Checked the wires to & from the MAF & again all seems fine?

you are runing the fuel pump via a fuel pump relay,as if you are runing it of a ignition live as soon as you turn the key it will pump fuel striaght away with no initial prime.
tried cleening the plugs, double checked that your getting a spark.have you checked the timing to make sure the belt hasnt slipped a tooth, which i no seems a long shot but its worth a look.

Thanks again for the reply!

My fuel pump does go through a relay, so it primes the fuel system when the ignition is switched on.

The plugs are wet every time I try to start it, So I have to clean & dry them!

The belt & tensioner kit was brand new, but again I hsve rechecked the timing twice now & it fine?

Still stumped, aarrgghh

kevin wrx 16 October 2011 08:55 PM

obviously you have checked all connections to everything maybe it has a faulty cpld start sensor,i dont recomend this but have u tried easy start down the air box...
