overheating

hi my mates l reg import wrx water pump packed in while he was driving, it started overheating. Will there be lasting damage or was it safe enough to run it when he did. And anything to look out for as in any problems

you wont no till u run it with a new pump fitted and also if he ran it a long time when pump packed up,he might have done the head gaskets.

Depends how hot and how long for. The head gasket is very possible just hope he hasnt cracked a liner. Is it definately the pump that caused it to overheat.
Did my Head gasket a few months back not a nice job :nono:
When he gets it started up take it for a run, when you stop open the expansion bottle lid (RH side of the engine looking in) if you have bubbles coming up or fluid returning to the bottle the HG is probably gone.
