DASH LIGHTS FRONT AND REAR FOGS GONE OUT

Hello i installed a new stereo today using the proper wiring loom so just clicked it in and put the new stereo in the dash sorted

then i have gone to go out turned on my headlights and i have headlights and sidelights and full beam but no dash lights like around the speedo heaters etc

tried turning on my fogs nothing

rear fogs nothing

i havent had a chance as its 2 dark to check the fuses but could there be a wire i have pulled out from behind the stereo or not earthed something on the new wiring loom as im useless all help is appreciated

just annoying as i have been out there for about 2 hours now and getting a bit raged with it

Should have disconnected the batt first.

You no doubt have blown a fuse/s. Not sure where the fuse box is inside the New Age. In a Classic it's down by the throttle pedal, bolted to the side, near the door.

hopefully it is just a few fuses

the fuse box is just by the steering wheel bottom right side incase any 1 asks lol

cheers mate

When I fitted a new H.U. in my old WRX, I didn't disconnect the batt... I blew the H.U.'s output transistors!

LOL

Used to LOVE car electrics. Get out the wiring diagram that was in ALL Haynes' manuals, and trace the wires. The colours they gave were always correct and most times the fault was easily traceable.

Like the time in my MkI Escort, the sidelights came on dim when I put my foot on the brake..........easily traced to a poor earth in one brake light cluster. However.........the same foot on brake also produced the phenomenon of the engine continuing to run with the key off and removed:eek:

Nowadys, I agree, the colours of wires change from year to year regardless of model, and there are so many circuits using the same fuse it's not easily traceable...

But Witchcraft, it ain't.........for Witchcraft, try running 18 spur circuits off a distribution box with double pole circuit breakers, through a floor and up and into a false ceiling so as to feed each room separately, and remember that each room uses the same three basic colours: brown for live, blue for neutral and green/yellow for earth. And each room needs a lighting feed, a feed for sockets, (even the bathroom), and one for a dedicated electric heater circuit). I've got wires strung everywhere, some in flexible conduits, most not. Plus a two way lighting circuit for the landing, so one white and one orange wire fed into the mix.

THAT'S Witchcraft..........because when I've done, trust me, it WILL work!

Yeah, when electrics gets 'complicated', my eyes glaze over lol.

But I'm okay on simple circuits, etc. (I think) lol

Got a similar problem myself at the moment.

Put the stereo in and I lost dash lights, heater control lights, side lights and tail lights!!

Checked all fuses and relays and still no idea.

Have temporariliy wired the circuit off the ignition so I look like a Volvo with side lights on all the time

well the closest i get to electrics is putting my phone on charge lol

haha but ill certanly take both ur advice and be checking from the simple parts then if not solved ill try the tracing part

thanks for advice

I have my sidelights on all the time... anyway!. It's only fair to let people see you careening towards them! :D

No, it's because of the Subaru's so called alleged "smart alternator". Search it, and you'll see what I'm on about....

ah damn when u get it sorted a post back on this thread would be helpfull if i dont get it sorted beforehand thank u

scoobydan1985 13 October 2011 11:52 AM

You need to remove the fuse that contols those circuits and test it with either a fuse tester or a multimeter. Never EVER rely on just LOOKING at a blade fuse.

Cheers. Will be having a go at that tomorrow.
