Aagh, Ive ruined my door

After dinging and scratching my door with a suitcase last year I thought Id get round to polishing out the scratch with Halfords rubbing compound only for it to burn straight through and take away the paint, making something rather minor into a big ugly sight :freak3:

I sprayed it with paint from paints4u and it is seemless however I could not get the lacquer on properly and after rubbing it back down, this time with a different paste I now have two different areas of worn away paint :wall: :lol1:

Anyway Ive decided to quite before I rub my door away completely and get it done by a pro. Ive been quoted £120 which seems really cheap. Is this about right or does this seem to good to be true? The price includes getting the dent out, painting and putting it in a slow oven which I think offers the best finish.

Are body shops that use the proper paint and 2k lacquer much the same or are there better places than others?

Work on the basis that a panel is £250 for a good sprayer to do your work. I assume at £120 that's a 'smart repair' and he'll try to blend the rest of the door in and match the colour across the door?

i use a polish garage in bolton they did my golf hole car color change and 9-10 of my mate cars in the same vw club they do a really really good job for £600 yes thats right £600 looked better than £3000 job on my old escort cosworth

that was the car 1 year later after being stored outside through the winter had just having a quick wash before mot

Well I tried doing it myself one last time and its come up really well. There is a slightly annoying light patch but it is only noticeable in bright sunlight when there is nothing to reflect on it and while standing around 10yards away at 45º.

The £120 I found was for the car door and not for the blending. If I wanted it blended it would be £200. It certainly isnt worth doing it now Ive achieved good results.

I have to say that I would be very happy taking it to a Polish garage. Every Polish person I know work as well as they possibly can unlike a lot of English people around here who have a very poor work mentality.

£600 is a heck of a good price.

Might be an option to get a replacement door in the same colour....picked up a "bare" door in O2C after hitting a deer earlier this year for £100...saved any paint being put onto the car...replacement front wing was £60....in the same colour...an insurance job would have "blended" into the rear door, skirt, bonnet and bumper all of which were undamaged...this way the car has never been painted :)
