04/05 blob eye 2.0 wrx awd turbo

Hi all,

After 10 years of driving, and lusting after a scooby I am eventually at a time where I can treat myself to one!

I am actively looking now, and thinking of going down the line of a blob eye 2.0 WRX AWD Turbo. Few reasons I'm thinking this - cheaper insurance and lower road tax being 2.

Now for the newbie questions... What's folks opinions on this model. Are there any known issues or things I should be looking out for?

Is there a big performance difference between the 2.0 wrx and the 2.5 wrx? Top end performance I am willing to sacrifice, as long as I get that lovely burble i'll be quite happy! :D

I guess the question I'm asking is; am I being silly going for the 2.0 wrx awd?

Many thanks for your time, and I look forward to the replies.

Cheers,
G

The road tax would be a huge thing for me aswell, scoobys are expensive enough as it is, and the state of the UK's roads just wouldn't merit paying 400+ a year.

I have a blobeye 2004 wrx 2.0 l turbo in black . absoloutly mint condition with a ninja exhaust system . I would recommend them to anyone . It looks the part, sounds the part and is one of the fastest cars i have ever driven. if i were you i would try and get a standard one so you can modify it yourself should you wish . not as bad on fuel as some might think although this might depend on what car you have now . ie) if you have a 1litre fiat panda running on bio deisel , you might feel the impreza guzzles it a tad, but if you dont floor it every where you go , there not to bad. let me know how you get on . Tom

Do it. I bought my first impreza a couple months ago, a 2004 wrx. I only wish I'd bought it sooner. Brilliant car.

I had a early 2006 WRX, I loved the 2.5 in it and being Pre April 06 it was in the old tax band which was a right result. Personally I'd go for as new as you can get, like the Blob but like the Hawk even more.

What is your budget?

I've had a couple of hot hatches when I was younger. Currently got a Nissan Qashqai as have a little boy. Time for a toy I think! :norty:

Out of curiosity, what kinda mpg are you getting from the 2.0?

geo17 04 October 2011 01:21 PM

oh yeah... forgot. Budget up to 8k, but looking to pick one up for the 6 / 6.5 mark hopefully.

L&G.scooby 04 October 2011 01:26 PM

With that budget I think you could get a nice 04 sti blob with some very nice mods already done, and insure it, even though it is a sti.
Sti is the way to go mate.

Full tank of v-power in my car returns about 230 miles. Costs about £65-70.

Cool - I was just curious. I'm not buying a Subaru to watch the petrol gauge! I'll fill it up as and when it needs it, that's not a problem.

The only problem I do have is giving the government £455 for a newer 2.5 hawkeye, hence the reason I am lookin at the 2.0 WRX...

i consistantly get over 300 miles to a full tank costing on average £70.00 a time .but mostly i do drive it sensibly.

That's exactly what I'm after, mileage and price wise. Good man.

Flaps 04 October 2011 02:40 PM

I used to get 245 miles for a tank in my 04 WRX before the light came on so I agree with the above comments.
My wife still says I should never have swapped it for the Hawk STI, the ride was much more comphy in that.
I wonder where it is now? Black 04, STI spoiler, K-Sport brakes, 18 inch Rota wheels. Last seen in Portsmouth last October.

An early Hawk will be in the lower tax bracket, 56/06 upto late March 06.

I drive like a dick.

Me to, I get about 240 miles

bigsinky 04 October 2011 04:33 PM

STi FTW chaps. has to be. 2005 last of the 2.0l models, wider track, 6 speed dccd, better suspension, better interior, more power, better brakes. silver Sti blob 50k miles over in NI for 6K

topman2180 04 October 2011 06:58 PM

Go and test drive the WRX , then test drive and STI . After I drove both I had to have an STI. Insurance will hurt for the first year if you don't have awd driving experience but mine dropped by a third after one year.

Thanks for the replies. No one has had a bad word to say about it, so I will take that as a good sign! :)

I shall keep going with my search, and hopefully be back on here the proud owner of a Scooby.
