Just a quick question, Would standard classic headers be good enough for 400 bhp :wonder:

Yes, pm Harvey on here he can supply you with ported headers and purpose up pipe all heat wrapped good for 400bhp

I have to say that when my classic went to 400, he advised tubualr headers, but a lot depends on the turbo/up-pipe in use;) |

I will be running a proper TD05 20G from Harvey or AF, it will be mental (as per few SN memeber who have done this) but you will need a 6 speed greabox because the 20g will destroy your 5 speed and have you forged your 2.5?

Yes mate the 2.5 is forged, I'm going to run my 5 speed till it dies and go from there mate.:thumb:
I'm on the lookout for a turbo at the moment and the TD05 20g seems to be the one at the moment. |
dont let the gearbox die sell it make some money on it and put it on the 6speed. make sure you get a proper TD05 20g, email Harvey he has this turbos and its not ebay sh*t

Coupled with tubular headers and a matched up-pipe, the car is incredibly driveable. Will tootle along in 5th, but has sufficiant torque to go when you want it to, and when the turbo comes in at around 3500, it just boots you in the back;) It has a 6-speed and uprated clutch too. Edited to say: sell the 5-speed, use the money to fund the 6 speed. Makes sesne, it's what I did;) |

Cheers, James For best results, particularly on a 2.5, at some point beyond 400 bhp subject to supporting spec and turbo in use, the best option is GT 2 Spec type tubular headers with my trick three bolt uppipe. A TY752 gearbox will, in time break with the torque from a good 20G. A TY754 is a different proposition and is quite up to the task drien intelligently. |
I have just bought a td05-18g will your ported headers and uppipe be ok on my 05 sti 2.0 or should i get tubular headers and your upipe harvey cheers

Hi Peter, the 18G will respond well to ported headers and matched uppipe which are £369 total, the uppipe forming £139 of that. Delivery £12.50 or we fit here in Darlington for a fixed £75.
You are on the border line of where you can consider tubular headers and if you are going to a bigger turbo at a later date, tubular headers may be an attractive proposition but they are expensive. The ported will do a good job. If you go tubular and you are on the bottom limit of where anybody could go tubular and make it worthwhile the header set is £445. DEI heat wrapping is £105 and my trick uppipe to go with the headers £149. Delivery £12.50 or we fit for a fixed £75. Fitting these tubular headers without my trick uppipe would be a total waste of time. Please come back with any more questions. |

MATT-C, i think the pipes that Harvey makes depends on what turbo you want to fit and he will make the pipe to work with the turbo, i don't think it varies on what power you want to run but i could be wrong.

There are six purpose designed uppipes with 2 bolt flanges and I match the uppipe you need to the turbo you have or intend to have. Obviously one uppipe cannot perform well on a TD04 and equally as well on a VF48 or vice versa. Also some people require to retain the uppipe sensor so they need an uppipe with a boss whereas many people and all STis will not use an uppipe sensor.
The logic of not using the uppipe sensor is that if it breaks due to too much heat or long life and natural fatigue then you might have bits of metal going through your turbo and this is not a good thing. I hope this answers your question. |
Hi, sorry to hijack your thread but a question for Harvey, is the up pipe O2 sensor on a newage not really needed then? If not what's the purpose and what will happen if I remove it?

Matt : No the same uppipe for both of these turbos.
