Rattle in the rear of classic wagon

Hi just got a WXR Wagon, it has a really nasty irritating rattle in the rear, sounds like the boot door isn't latched, but it appears to be. Taken everything out of boot, tools, tyre etc. Exhaust appears tight, seats not loose, spoilers tight....any ideas where else to look?

ive got this too it sounds like something loose in the tailgate driving me nuts.
Im taking it apart tomorrow or spraying the whole thing full of expanding foam:freak3:

seriously though my rattle appeared after the car was repaired following a slight rear end shunt.

Me the same, but mine sounds more like the rear of the roof lining rattling, i believe the tailgate can be adjusted for closure, but not sure there should be a reason to do that as cant see why after 17 years of abuse it should start rattling loose??

Have you checked the jack in passenger side compartment or the plastic covers on the back of the lights?

Mine rattle, so i wrapped the jack in an old towel, and removed the plastic covers and rattle has dissapeared.

One more thing to check is the spare wheel well, as sometimes toolkits come loose if stored in there,

Jack is out, tools too, wheel out, covers of rear light......will try, thought it might be rear wiper motor banging in tailgate? Spoils a good blast as I hate having radios on in cars that sound as good as these do.

Try the trim round the tailgate rear glass section that heads onto the roof lining and put some foam or cardboard in it

And it's definitely not the rear shocks?

I have a few phantom rattles. No idea what they are or where from. They keep changing location too.. playing with my mind.

Also check the boot lifters :)

i had to wrap some leccy tape round the boot catch hoop becuase although it was latching shut it was rattling on the latch. worked a treat.

check exhaust hangers and rubbers, a slight abng from them will sound loud inside car.
