What figures should i expect??

Ok, car will be mapped in 2 weeks, looking for some idea on what figures i should be expecting once done from the mods below.

Simtek ecu
Full decat exhaust, 2.5 downpipe, 3 inch centre and back
Roger clark k+n induction with spun alloy trumpet
Walbro fuel pump
440 injectors
Hybrid front mount intercooler
Ported headers

Thanks in advance

Turbo?

joz8968 28 September 2011 01:06 PM

But looks like the 440s will be the 'limiting factor' anyway (assuming your turbo is NOT a TD04L?).

440s will max at 325-340.

spyro123 28 September 2011 01:20 PM

depending if they are tuning it for reliability or power. if power (depending on turbo) about 350 MAX (440 injectors will hold you back from higher), for reliability i would say about 280 - 300 i have my98 classic running 260 to just keep her safe from bottom end damage but if you have 300+bhp make sure you have regular like clock work services or engine problems may happen. this is personal know how from mates and read ups on here. good luck and speed is good but keeping it reliable and keeping costs down are wise

wrxsti280 28 September 2011 02:02 PM

Turbo is td05 16g, was hoping for somewhere around 330 to keep it safe as turbo is capable of 350 bhp i believe, 260 seems conservative??

joz8968 28 September 2011 02:05 PM

Yep, 330 is very much on the cards with your mods. Should easily do it, what with the 'easy-to-map' Simtek Live ECU. :)

Dont talk to me about simtek being easy!! Lol however, hopefully things will be all gravy soon.

Got a set of pfr7's in, fresh oil and lambda due to previous issues, so hopefully should see the figures im hoping for.

joz8968 28 September 2011 03:26 PM

I meant easy for a competent mapper, as he doesn't have to wait 10mins between changes to take effect. He literally makes changes on the fly - helps eek out that all-important last bhp. :lol1:

New_scooby_04 28 September 2011 04:16 PM

Have you uprated the clutch mate?

If not, the 16G will most likely cause the std one to slip!

53 28 September 2011 04:29 PM

You won't get 350 :) 320 is most likely. :) you can push the 440's to 340 with a splash of NF but on the Simtek I'd play it safe :)

FWIW my clutch died about 2k miles after the power/torque increase and the gearbox was finished off after I put in a nice bitey exedy lol :D

1.4 bar :)

Don't forget to upgrade your map sensor if you want to run more boost. The existing one will restrict holding boost much beyond a bar as the existing map sensor stops play at 1.2 :) You need some margin of error for the boost target or you'll be cutting all day long :)

On my wagon I spliced in a 99 STi sensor which reads to 1.7 :)

spyro123 28 September 2011 04:30 PM

260 might be low but im keeping in mind this car is 13yrs old. the engine done 118k loved miles and im mainly just trying to stop the engine from blowing up. still does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds mainly because its been lightened "a bit" lol

53 28 September 2011 04:35 PM

Mine are 16 years old :D if you keep them serviced well and the mapping is sound you should have no problems beyond what is already there at 260 or 320 :) On the new 95' WRX I am putting in bigger injectors than 440's to allow greater margin :)

wrxsti280 28 September 2011 04:46 PM

As you can guess i have had problems with the simtek to start with, but thats all about to be sorted.

The car has had a brand new exedy organic clutch and skimmed flywheel, also a 3 bar map sensor is already in place.

Anything else i should be thinking about?? Im not to worried about the bhp if im honest, although i do want to notice a difference, i would like a car that drives spot on though and has accessible torque over standard. Will i notice much difference in the car from standard to what im hoping to end up with after mapping?.

spyro123 28 September 2011 04:48 PM

fair play lol it is very tempting to get lightness and power to create a monster that could do 0-60 in 4.0seconds dead or close. cash is a major problem in my life and at the moment running standered ECU 8s which only allows 1.15bar on my IHI - VF 23 turbo and the pump is only doing about the same. might change it but got loads other work to do yet like new pads and discs (front and rear), broken in half spoiler (in process of being fixed), arch rust (will need sending off dont trust myself), manifold heat shield about to fall to bits, leaking rad, rocker gasket need a change, needs a good service and my other half being up the duff for our second child its a very costly year for me

but i would agree 330, if done right, will be about what you will get

spyro123 28 September 2011 04:51 PM

i would hope you do notice a difference, if set up well everything should respond quicker run tighter and feel more connected to you rather than just the car on the up you will also be able to out run a few BMW + AUDI business drivers that love to inspect your bumper

If you don't notice a difference there's something wrong. My wagon flys with that set up :) Albeit not so much at the moment :D

wrxsti280 28 September 2011 04:58 PM

Lol, im hoping to have a play with a few cars slightly higher up the vag group, porsche to be precise!!! Lol, nothing like worrying people in 80k cars with a 5k jap estate!!! Lol

But seriously, with regards to yours, no point in going for stuff your not confortable with financially, im in a similar boat, made redundant at beginning of july, working a ****ty job with crap money and a second nipper on the way, the only difference being that the vast majority of the work on mine has been done over the last 18 months so its onoy really sorting the mapping out thats left at the moment, then off the road over winter for some cosmetic work and possibly bigger billet turbo and associated bits, and most prob after that off e road n the summer due to a blown up gearbox!!!

Thats what i was hoping to hear stu, whats up with yours then?? Or are you having some upgrades done??

53 28 September 2011 05:04 PM

Nothing wrong with mine but I have pinched the exhaust off it for the new one and Sorn'd it while I find the right six speed. Once the new ones finished I'll crack on with the wagon :) Only other upgrades it will get beyond the six speed are some of Harvey's headers and uppipe and some Lateral Injectors :) Calling it a day at 350 and then just going to abuse it at every track day opportunity :D

spyro123 28 September 2011 05:08 PM

:lol1: hope that don't happen. happened in my non turbo and was a nice hard fix but found a cheap park in a broker for £150 instead for 5x the amount new. i think me and you are doing mostly the same thing. i love the POWER FC ECU's but cant get hold of one easy  i will get it or sotred one day but its still very quick and corners tighter than a ducks bum  brill for going silverstone in. as for beating 80k cars as long as its not a GT3, GT2, 360, modded to fook skyline with 650bhp (next door mate wanted to play lol i won in corners but he won on speed)

overall you should be able to walk all over a cayman, and keep with a few 911's maybe beat one or 2 with 330bhp and you will have theses -:hjtwofing as you go past :lol1:

53 28 September 2011 05:13 PM

I use another one for track days atm :D :lol1:

I am using an Apexi in the new 95' WRX, picked it up for £300 :D they come up on ebay fairly regularly you just have to be quick :)

Sounds fun, im guessing once youve put a six speed in at 350 its pretty much bomb proof and about the right level for a seriously quick road car, over that figure im guessing could be a bit of a handful.

53 28 September 2011 05:33 PM

It's certainly as far as I would go on the standard engine :) I am only a FMIC away from an identical set up on the new WRX, you can't beat 300-350 bhp in a classic just so much mindless fun. Anything over 350 I see as a ballache tbh, 350 is achievable and sustainable and good enough for me :)

spyro123 28 September 2011 07:31 PM

dam you. i been looking cheapest i found is £500 which is £499 out my budget lmao

I like the comment about so much mindless fun, i can be swishng down some b road with the missus in the passenger seat, giggling to myself like im on drugs and she just doesnt get it at all, she thinks im mad as a box of frogs laughing to meself, but ya right, you cant beat it!!

spyro123 28 September 2011 08:06 PM
