LONDONERS!!!
Please offer some advice !
I might be moving to London to take a job working in London City Airport Where would be a good area to rent in that would be handy for commuting to work , not too expensive and not too dodgy ;) Cheers |
Manchester?
:D |
What sort of job is it? Gives us a clue as to the sort of area you could aspire to reside in.

Milton Keynes n commute.. Far cheaper ..
|
Dartford, Becton and Welling, not too far from City airport and have good transport links. Depends on how much you can afford on rent.
|
Beckton!?! Stuff that, my work was based there for a number of years, you couldn't pay me to live there! :lol1:
|
It depends are you a toilet cleaner or a pilot?
I hear erith is a lovely place |

Clearly there are better places, like I said, it depends on what you're willing to pay in rent. My brother rented there for several years in a modern development and experienced no problems. There are areas of Beckton that is fine, it's not like Hounslow or Walthamstow!!! The DLR will take you straight to City from Beckton so travel will be cheap and short. That said, I wouldn't BUY a property there.

I am originally from London and would never move back into it! Essex is far enough away but also easy enough to travel from, 25-30 to get into the Capital by train. also would be a lot cheaper to rent and live compared to living in the City.

With the London Overground serving east london well from all over london now, take your pick.
Personally I dont see much wrong with the majority of South London. Like anywhere, it has good and bad patches. |
Country bumpkin moving to the the big smoke?
You'll be mugged and bummed in no time flat :D |
greenwich

stay outside of london mate. by and large, londons an overpriced oppressive ****hole. i was born and bred there but the best thing i ever did was leave..sorry but thats the truth. gr8 if youre on a colossal salary otherwise, forget it. id consider MK, Luton, Maidstone (v easy to get to city airport from there)..To give u an idea of rentals i rented a room in a house in Acton (W3)..back in 2001 that room cost me £500p/m..the entire house was nearly £3kp/m...If you think Actons posh..google earth it..some nice streets but e lived 5 minutes from the Scrubs!

Commute from chelmsford
End of... |
I wouldn't want to live there, but I enjoyed it as a student over 10 years ago now.
For me it's too expensive and crowded, too many immigrants also. It can be a lonely place to be a stranger. |
penge, camberwell or maybe thamesmead!! actually thamesmead will probably safer if you stay at the prison!!! ;-)

it is a vale of sadness There are some really nice areas in south London. It's not all Brixton, Peckham and the many other toilet areas, of which north London has its fair share. If the OP is working at City Airport, the Docklands would be a start - depends on budget and willingness to travel though. |

Apart from saying 'avoid London', you couldn't have made a bigger generalisation.
