1&1 are OK until you have a problem - we are migrating away from them at the mo for that reason.

Funny enough I've been with 34sp for 4-5 years now, support is good but my sites been very slow to load for months now, when I raise a ticket they keep telling me everythings fine at there end and it's loading in an instant, but everytime I try and load it on different computers or even using different browsers it's still the same. :Suspiciou

Layershift

the support is very good,

any of the big companies like 1 and 1 will always try to rip you off.

It depends what you need. Are you looking at shared, virtual or dedicated? What sort of traffic levels do you have and do you have a budget?

Nothing too fancy it's only a blog type of thing on wordpress with some downloads, shared or virtual (price dependand).

I'm currently using the Professional 1000 set up from 34sp http://www.34sp.com/professional-hosting so something similar would be ok.

Ok, so what's making you leave them? i.e. what do you find important in the package that you aren't getting now? Support? Price? Speed? Space?

Sorry for lots of questions, but it's just a bit pointless recommending someone if they won't deliver what it is you actually want!

Speed!

My site has been slow to load for months, I raised a ticked to get them to look into it and they say its fine with them, I've tried it on four different PC's (different houses) on three different browsers and its the same on them all. apart from 34sp. Thinking it could have been something on my site slowing it down like a component I deleted the site (Joomla) and rebuilt it with Wordpress using different plugins (obviously) and it's still the same. So it isn't my PC, it isn't anything on the site, it's pointing at the webhost.

OK, if it's speed that's the problem then something that is definiately UK based would be best for you.

Post your current site address (or PM me it if you don't want it on here) and I can run some stats to see where the hold up is now. If it definately points to the web hosting then I'll give you some UK ones to try out.

Where are most of your readers?

The net is very congested these days with all the video flying around (thanks BBC/You Tube etc.) that usually the bottlenecks are cross continent. i.e a server in the US will load websites much faster for US readers than for Euripean and vice versa.

If your readers are UK based then a UK host makes sense.

To be honest whil reading reviews is OK a web host that is great one year can end up being bad the next... usually as they have grown and have become oversubscibed and saturated.

Very few of the cheaper companies provide a long term consistently good service.

You pays your money and all that!

My experience has been good with easyspace over the past 5 or so years for 2 sites. Couple of minor problems were sorted quite quickly

I suppose I should check the competition for prices though

Well as I was so pi$$ed off with it I've let it expire, as of this morning the domain name just points back to the 34sp site now. :(

In hindsight I should have created this thread yesterday so you could have got a better idea of whats happening, but hindsight is a great thing lol. :lol1:
