Engine builders opinions
 

So the last couple of days iv'e been cleaning and painting bits and bobs for my new rebuild, now during this process it has become apparent to me that this has never been done, and considering i paid rather alot of cash to have it rebuilt the first time i'm feeling mildly miffed to say the least.

Now to the part that i want your opinions for.

Would you not consider it to be standard procedure to clean absolutely everything so as to ensure no contamination of any kind during the new build process.

So i'm now left with the feeling my engine has always been on borrowed time and considering it failed after a mere 10,000 miles it would seem that my theory is holding a small amount of water.

As i can't see how you could possibly rebuild an engine to the required standard after a big end failure without ensuring everything was spotless.

My engine was rebuilt by EngineTuner and it was spotless. They build engines in a "clean room" so yes everything should be very very clean.

Holy shat that sexy!

It was something Alan at engine tuner said on one of my previous threads that set me thinking, and the state of my engine when it came back was barely better than when it went in, the block had been cleaned up a bit, but the heads were filthy, and considering i had the valve stem oil seals done as well you woulds think they might have to be clean whilst working on them as well as the fact that there would have been bits of baring shell floating about them.

I know this to be the case as i'm in the process of making everything spotless and shiny, you should see the bits of metal in the oil :eek:

who did your build?

Anyone worth their salt will not only build your engine (any engine) in a clean room but they will also clean every single part that goes into the build. My engine builder cleaned everything 4 or 5 times to the point of obssession but thats what it takes.

Get another engine builder mate would be my honest opinion.

Yes i agree,thats why i'm doing it here and not shipping the car back to the uk.

I have the use of a renault dealership and people that are building engines all the time to help, just need a bit of tech info and jobs a good un.

I would love to tell you but i don't want to listen to a load more bull or get involved in a law suit, and whats done is done.

But they are not in your neck of the woods and they don't have a clean room so if your looking for someone to build an engine just make sure they have a clean room and you will be fine :thumb:

That will never get dirty Banny as it will be on that stand for years :) You will just have to worry about what to do with all the dust :D

Like the other engines on show on this thread that is how a rebuilt engine should look, after all if they can't be bothered to clean and prep properly what else have they failed to do?

Cleanliness is unquestionable with any build.

A proper clean room will be like a lab, think surgical theatre.

Not only has controlled air but also controlled temperature. All parts should be soaked to temperature too.

However this was built in my garage, but i assure you this build is as clean as any you'll ever find.
