Here is a better pic of the clock spring showing the connector I mean.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f7...8/7ac71d58.jpg Now I have had a better look at the wheel and there is a female socket going into the back of the airbag behind the badge, could this for the mystery connector? If so I don't think this is a blobeye click spring as it doesn't fit :wonder: |
Now after a bit more digging I have found out that it is the right clock spring but the connector is broken. Could I get a replacement connector from a dealer or do I need a new clock spring?
|
Broken how? Will it still mate with the one on the car?
You could try looking here: www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk, see if they list one like it, pickle the pins out of the broken one, replace into the new. Or just go for it, count the wires, replace BOTH sides of the broken one, the bit on the clockspring, AND the bit on the car. Cut all wires, solder and heatshrink, refit with two parts of nice new connectors;) Trust me, the connectors aren't important, it's that the wires INSIDE go to the correct wires on the car that is. As above for website. |
This is the connector that is broken. It is the one connected to the wires with the yellow sleeve over them.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f7...8/dab1dc96.jpg Mine doesn't have the 90 degree angle part shown so won't go into the back of the airbag. Anyone know if I can get just the wiring/connector from a dealer or is it new clock spring time? If I can just get the wires any idea if a part number? |

I also purchased an STi Steering wheel to go in my classic... the clock spring that I got doesn't fit on my classic, but has the connector you need.... Interested? If so PM me |

Bit of an update : got the steering wheel fitted with a little modding of the clock spring.
The only problem now is that the airbag light stays on? The only thing I can think is that on the large black connector the green wire has been cut and then spliced back together :wonder: Does anyone know what that black connector is for, as don't want the airbag going off in my face  |
Why did you have to modify the clock spring? Should be a simple plug in job?
|
Had to drill a hole to screw it to the stalks. Any idea what the black connector is for?
|
I think it is airbag related mate, guess i was lucky when i changed mine over. If the airbag light is on i,d be a bit careful. Did you disconnect battery when you changed it over?

I'm pretty sure it's the yellow connectors that are to do with the air bag but would be helpful to know what the black connector is for. |
