Knock Prevention
what is the best way to stop knock, ive been recommended a syvecs ecu so i can change maps to suit the fuel i can get!
any advice appreciated :thumb: |
Best way is to get the car running properly......... :D
What have you got ? Shaun |
i have a hawkeye wrx, in the avatar, but the engine has been subject to detonation so its foooooked! so i need to take some measures when its rebuilt to stop it!

Stock ecu has knock correction and that didn't save it.
My advice is get it tuned on decent fuel and stick to it. Martyn |
Yes Syvecs is nice ECU,8 switchable maps, but still think its overkill on your build.
Your OEM ECU have too knock control or knock correction. Second option is fitting KnockLink. Jura |
hey martyn, you were mentioned today in the discussion about my engine,
its remapped to run on v power but the problem is im from ireland and was home for 2-3 months and running Maxol "E5" which is meant to be 99 octane, so i presumed it would be ok, but because it is 5% ethanol it wasnt a good idea!! this is why a syvecs was recommended to me as i cant get v-power in ireland!

i aggree its overkill but becasue of when in ireland i cant get v power it may be the best option!!!! and the antilag is quite appealing to me too haha

Why not get the stock ecu mapped for 95 RON? If you have the "megarom" or "racerom" done you can have 2 maps done - I think you can do that on a Hawk WRX?
|
i have the regualr ecu ecutek'd i suppose the best idea wud be to use 95 ron, wud i lose much power tho. not sure about megarom or racerom, dont know what they are!!!
|
Megarom gives you per-gear boost control and two switchable maps. Racerom does other stuff but can't remember what :freak3:
Assuming your ecu supports it, I would think megarom would be the best compromise, allowing a 95RON and 99RON map. Would have thought your mapper would have suggested it, though, unless your ecu doesn't support it... |
Racerom does flat foot shifting and blip on downchange......:)

Speaking to a good mapper in Scotland (Andy Forrest) and have been told I can get a duel mapps on my standard ecu on my03 blob wrx

The first thing you need to do is conclusively determine what caused the det in your old engine. Was it fuel or was it a duff sensor e.g. the MAF sensor. If it was the latter, guess what's going to happen to your rebuild?
The best way to avoid knock is to have the car mapped for the fuel that is available to you and invest in a knock detection device like a KS3 or knocklink to keep an eye on things. There's no need to spend 1k+ on a syvecs as Ecutek is very capable on the Hawks, you can have Racerom loaded which even gives you the option of going Mafless which illiminates one of the sensor culrprits for det! WRX cook.........not sure you have enough room for two full maps on your DENSO ECU if it's a UK car. Andy might have mentioned a lower boost setting using the rear demist/full throttle combination. ?

I would estimate the power on that set up to be approx 330-340bhp (assuming it is an sti Turbo fitted)
