Which Gauges are best?

Since my engine blew up a few weeks ago i think after the rebuild i better get some gauges in there so i know whats goin on, im just wondering what are the best ones? and are defi's really worth all that extra money, in my opinion they look the best but function over fashion is what i always say :).

cheers.

I would say if not defis then prosport stepper gauges are really good.

I have got the more basic prosport gauges and am very pleased with them.

andy bird 08 September 2011 08:14 PM

ive got prosport gauges very happy with them

etxp85 08 September 2011 08:28 PM

what price would a set of 3 defi gauges and the controller be without fitting would anyone know??

i do really like defis :) prosport was my second choice

alcazar 08 September 2011 08:28 PM

Defis look and work well, but you do pay for them. Remembner you need a control unit too. I have five, and have paid about £600 for them in all including the control box, got a deal on the first three. Fitted 'em all myself, no probs.

£1200 to fit is too much, even including supply, for three gauges. TBH, if you have some basic knowledge, you can DIY in a day.

Prosport are OK too, but their connectors are suspect and need careful handling.

What have you found "suspect" with the prosport connectors mate as I've had no problems with them so far?

£125 new delivered from japan, Been after a set of Red Defi BF Series for a while myself and cant find a set for sale

banny sti 08 September 2011 10:47 PM

Looks wise defis are good but not the best for accuracy, if you want the most accurate gauges go for the SPA ones but they dont look as "nice" as the defis.

Seen quite a few posts on here where gauges are misbehaving due to the connectors not having mated perfectly. They apparently don't have the positive click when mating that Defis have?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seemed to be the prob, it was cured by pushing connectors more firmly home.

IIRC, one even had to be GLUED in place on the rear of the gauge............

Not a problem, you just push the sender wires through an existing grommet, under the brake master cylinder, in the engine bay, and a bit of contortionist work finds the ends under the dash;)

My dash didn't come apart at all. I DID lift the passenger side carpet at the front a little, to help me get wires through, mine came through there, no A/C, you see ;)

Ialso taped the ends of all wires together to protect the connectors, and taped THAT lot to the end of a starightened wire coathanger, which pushed through dead easy, the wires then all following, unharmed.

The only bit of dash I removed was the top cubbyhole, in order to fit a 3-gauge pod.

The wiring comes with the gauges, the controller has IT'S wires captive. So they WILL be there;)
Any gauge wires you need, e-bay is your friend.

DO NOT buy a gauge without it's sender. Buying senders separate is dear and a complete PITA.

Agreed, all the money is in the sender. Alcazar been reading your retrofit projector thread, awesome and exactly what I was looking for :thumb:

alcazar 09 September 2011 04:21 PM

And TBH, dead easy to do, if time consuming.

Retrofit source also a pleasure to deal with.

t16mbo 09 September 2011 05:54 PM

Not even a power cable tho

stonejedi 09 September 2011 07:42 PM
