Linking iMac to TV/surround sound wirelessly

As title, can I link my iMac to my TV and or my Surround sound via bluetooth or similar? If so what hardware would I need and wheres best to purchase it from?
Its so I can stream vids and music from my study to the living room....

Doesn't that Apple TV thingy do all that **** for you?

ChefDude 08 September 2011 05:30 PM

Doesn't it have a DLNA function like my Android phone to do this? :wonder:

No it has AirPlay, it's like a grown up version of DLNA.

You can also use an Airport Express. I use this as one of my wireless bridges. It's got an audio connection to my amp.
I then set any computer in the house to play via airport.

This is for the audio though.

You can use an Apple TV too, and IIRC, there's software for the Xbox360 to stream movies too....

Personally, I've got an old G5 set up as a media server. Got a video connection to my Plasma.
I control it either by my laptop or phone (or any other machine in the house).
Kids also have access to the music aspect too on their computers.

Just sussed out Apple TV and it looks like it'll be perfect. I'm wanting to wall mount my TV so need to know what cables will be required as i want them completely hidden etc.......

No mention of ethernet cable on apples site. My computer has the internet (wireless) so surely thats all thats needed

Wifi works great, Power and HDMI is all you need.

Ant 09 September 2011 10:04 PM

Streaming hd content over wireless is a big fail

JackClark 09 September 2011 11:59 PM

Depends on how HD you mean and how fast your WiFi is.

Ant 10 September 2011 04:12 AM

I've got wireless N and it struggles, until I got a wired connection.

Just for me personally I prefer a hardwired connection if I'm streaming

True, True.
