Advice on turbo swap

Got me a front entry converted td05 to replace the little td04 and am going to have a bash at swapping it over tomorrow. Is there anything I need to be aware of or any tips for doing the swap that can make life a bit easier?! Thanks

Give all the turbo/downpipe and turbo/up pipe bolts a blast of wd40 tonight before you go to bed, it might free them up a bit.

And then get up and soak again before breakfast. Make sure you use a good 1/2" drive socket set preferably a 6 point instead of 12 point.
I had a pig of a job taking my TD04 off MY06 Hawk. But they do come you just have to be a little brave.

Hope it goes well :-)

There is a small alloy lug on the gearbox housing that can sometimes get in the way and might need filing off. Mine needed a little attention but some people put a TD05 into the Bug WRX without any hitches.......a bit hit and miss but not sure why.

Otherwise it's a physically straight swap ............

Ok thanks pal. I'm hoping it shouldn't be too difficult as I had my engine rebuilt a few months back so it I'm guessing it will have been off already, plus changed my downpipe less than a month ago and got new genuine Subaru gaskets to put on!

Aha lucky man - should be a breeze ;-)

Hope it goes well - I had to split the exhaust to give me some room but see how u get on.

All the best.

It should be dead easy if you already had an engine build done, the nuts should come off quite easily. Wd40 can work sometimes but when it has not worked , I have found there is less chance of you snapping a stud if you run the engine for 15 mins and then try taking the bolt off. The heat produced. Allows the stud to come off alot easier than trying to free it from cold.

agree with the above but use penetrate spray or plus gas works better than wd40 which is more of a water dispersant and heat always helps.
