Golf 2.0 GTI MK4 any good?

As title my sister is looking at one are they any good? Any problems to look for?

No. You are paying for a GTI badge but no GTI performance.
115BHP if I remember right and they feel slower than that. No faster than the 1.6 105BHP Golf but worse on fuel and higher insurance costs. If she is after a nippy MK4 Golf, tell her to get the 1.9 GT TDI 130. Much better.

i agree with above tbh

Yup Gear Head, its the 2ltr 8v engine that they had in the mk3, not good for a car that added weight, most mondeo's of the time could leave them standing!
Also avoid the N/A 1.8 20v engine.

Tony:)

Tell her to spend a bit more and get a MK5 GT Sport TDI

not to concerned about the power, the gt tdi is out of her price range as she has just bought a house. she choose the gti as it has more spec over the standard petrol cars.

As already said the 2.0 is underpowered and not really worthy of the badge tbh. The 1.8 Turbo can be had for similar money, has 150bhp and is much better. The only real problem I have ever had with them is the electrics can be hit and miss. Apart from that, cracking cars and fab build quality.

In that case, if she has her heart set on a golf, just get a 1.6 SE. From 2000, they came with a 16v 105BHP engine, 6 airbags, gamma sound system, air-con etc.
No point paying the premium for the GTI.
