Just left work and when I started the scoob I noticed a light on on the dash. Checked what it was when I got home and it is the CEL light.

Have any of you guys got an OBD reader so I can find out what has gone nipples north and get it sorted???

Thanks in advance. :thumb:

OK mate, do you use the car everyday or can it be left until the weekend?

Steve

martin850 31 August 2011 07:19 PM

I have no choice but to use it unfortunatly as I have no other way to get to work :(

The weekend is fine though Steve, the car feels ok with no unusual noises or smells coming from the engine so am hoping its only a sensor that has gone on the fritz.

Can I take it that you have a way of reading the codes mate?

Stevesbluewrx 31 August 2011 07:23 PM

I have a OBD reader mate thats all. Gives you a heads up before going to someone like FB Tuning to get it sorted and so on?

If it drives and your feel confident I can meet you halfway or something shortly?

Steve

martin850 31 August 2011 07:27 PM

Where are you based mate?

Stevesbluewrx 31 August 2011 07:30 PM

I'm Sunbury/Ashford matey.

Steve

martin850 31 August 2011 07:34 PM

Ok mate, would meeting at mags' shop on Saturday be possible as weekday evenings are difficult?

Stevesbluewrx 31 August 2011 07:41 PM

YHPM.

Mags is a fag. He'll take you to a Gaybar.

Sorted now thanks to Steve. Turns out it was the pre-turbo O2 sensor, Steve deleted the fault off and the light hasn't come back on yet so fingers crossed it just spacked out for a bit :wonder:

Thanks again Steve for your help :notworthy

JonMc 31 August 2011 09:41 PM

Is that the downpipe one. Mine did this and came back on after spirited runs; the sensor may be on its way out, 50k is a good life and yours isn't that far off but it is old. You can get them for about £140 - don't pay Subaru's £350 price tag:eek:

Not a problem at all mate. Nice to meet you. :thumb:

I'd be tempted to give it a clean first mate.

As Jon says SUBARU want silly money. Try Import Car Parts mate

Steve

What was the actual fault code number?

Glad to see it's all hunky dory :)

BrownPantsRacing 31 August 2011 10:35 PM

Hi mate. Work in Berkhamsted near you. Will have my reader in my car tomorrow. Quite happy if you wanna pm me and drop by to use my reader tomorrow? Andy

Thanks for the offer Andy but the light has come on again so it new sensor time
Might take you up on the offer when I fit it if the code needs deleting again though :thumb:

Is it worth buying secondhand as am a bit skint at the moment after paying for my car tax? :(

martin850 01 September 2011 06:15 AM

I have had a look on eBay and there are quite a few different types and prices of sensor.

There are lots of three and four wire sensors, I am guessing but are the pre-turbo four wire and the post-turbo three? There are four wire sensors for £80 which would be less of a dent on my wallet???

Guess it's karma for me thinking of selling up ;)

What would I use to clean it, carb cleaner? :wonder:

martin850 01 September 2011 06:46 AM

After a little searching on here I have found this link to the sensor I think I need and it's cheaper than importcarparts :luxhello:

No worries mate. Just give me a bell if you need me to reset or check codes. Any time. Andy

martin850 01 September 2011 08:20 AM

Thanks Andy :thumb:

TH3_5T1G 01 September 2011 09:46 AM

You cannot get a universal for the pre-cat sensor - it has to be the Denso one otherwise it won't work. Get that one for £80-ish quid and you'll need a 24mm spanner iirc.

rickya 01 September 2011 10:54 AM

If your running decat & car is mapped you might be better off just turning sensor input off in Ecu.

Have you got the £80 one fitted on your car then Jon?

Think I have got a spanner that big floating around at home :wonder:

It is mapped but I am running a sports cat, don't know if that changes things. I guess that to turn the input off I would need to get FB Tuning to hook it up to a laptop and have tinker?
