Difference: E3 and Y7 ECU?
I tried doing a search on this (as i have been on everything i've been unsure about over the past few weeks) but i can't search E3 or Y7 as the words are too small.
I Initially had an E3 ECU in my UK 99 Wagon, but now have a PPP ECU. However I'm looking to buy an ECUtek licenced ECU and get it mapped for my specific mods. Can I get an ECU stamped Y7? What's the difference between this and E3? Thanks in advance! |
Yes you can buy an ecu stamped Y7 and it will fit straight into your 99 car.I went the other way round i chose to keep my E3 from my old 99 car and fit it in my current MY2000 car. The main differences in the 2 ecu's is in the maps.Generally the E3(AE800/801) tends to give a performance gain over the Y7 as it does not run as rich as the later AE802 unit(Y7).Being as the older versions already run rich, the extra fuel will reduce power
I did not post this earlier as i am currently bidding on a Y7 ecu, which I want if i ever decide to take my car back to std, hope you were not looking on winning the one on ebay : |
Hi,
Just seen this on a similar thread - should help with info required, http://www2.ecutek.com.au/ecu_original.htm I have an AE802 ECU from my '00 saloon spare... |
To be fair in std form there is clearly an advantage over using an E3 over a Y7,but when the 2 ecu's are mapped via ecutec the performance is pretty similar from both ecu's ,however the E3 seems to hold torque slightly higher in the rev range than the Y7.

Ok thanks a lot.
I'm basically just trying to save on the licence and not bidding on anything on Ebay. I'm after getting an already ECUtek mapped ECU just to save the licensing money and i will keep my E3 spare to revert to if i ever decide to put the car back to standard. |
I have an Andy Forrest Mapped EcuTek ECU at home. Im almost certain its a Y7. Drop me a PM if you are interested.

interesting so you are saying the same map on a e3 and y7 ecu will produce slightly different torque curves?

I know it's a old post but any chance anybody has e3 or y7 already remapped in middle of doing 99 uk wagon but on a budget any help in rite direction would be appreciated
