FAO Newage Saloon owners with 18x9.5

Hi All,

I assume to do so you are running coilys & have had arch mods.

How extreme are th arch mods?
What size tyres do you run?
What off set is the wheel?
How mcuh pace is there between tyres & arch? in mm if you can :)

thanks,

macmac 22 August 2011 12:28 PM

rota grid 18x9.5
blitz coilovers (i think)
no arch rolling
no rubbing
no camber
only thing was 7mm spacers to clear front brembo's

slapped them on and away with me!

hope this helps

LewisL 22 August 2011 12:33 PM

that helps greatly mate :)

what offset are they?

Pyrotechnic 22 August 2011 01:12 PM

Inovit GTOs, 18x9.5 et38 +35mm spacer (so final et is 3).
225/40/18 tyres.
Arches rolled and flared (then smacked with a large hammer to fine tune it...)
I can still get my fingers in the gap (just), any lower and it rubs too much.
Just over -5 degrees camber:

You were at Usc this year? Seeing your motor made me want to go spoilerless with mine! Shame shes not a tubby though :p

tubbytommy 22 August 2011 02:41 PM

lol i love a bit of banter, the car does look nice though, i like to see something different that someone has done.
not my sort of thing but looks good without the spoiler too.
do you tyres wear odd on the rear?

macmac 22 August 2011 04:19 PM

"ridiculous" is a bit harsh as your the first negative comments ive got , sure she's a wee bit high

my car has not yet had geo a setup/ride height adjustment , but my spin across the mountain pass lets me know i can drive her on (no rubbing), which i doubt you could manage with those crooked rears and lift your crooked chin mate ,its scraping of the pavement ! lol

let the banter begin !!

nice lookin bug but its more "show than go" i reckon , i like to have both !

Yeah, fronts are only 8.5j, et38 with a 25mm spacer. And you'd be right, I only have 1 front mudflap after I reversed over and ripped off the other side :thumb:
Close-up of the flare (ignore the state of the wheels, I can't park for s**t...):

Yep, front row of the Show and Shine :] T'is a shame, would like a bit more power sometimes, but cheaper ins and running costs make up for it a little :D

One of the rears has done nearly 10k miles (puncture killed the other) and there's probably ~1mm or so difference between the inside and outside edges.

Because you never see proper racecars that are low with wide wheels and plenty of negative camber do you? ;] It's been a daily driver like this for 15 months now and has never stopped me going anywhere I wanted to go, and that includes 1000 miles to Belgium and back the other month. And it's a non-turbo, so it hardly had any 'go' in its factory state :p

macmac 22 August 2011 11:26 PM

do you know what , your dead right ....i dont see much as i live in a cave !!

what are these race cars you speak of ??

is belgium not one of the flatest countrys goin ? and have you much rubbing in general ?

Bet the Scoob sounds good in there :D

Unless it's racing off-road, pretty much any racecar will be lowered to lower the COG, have negative camber to aid grip when cornering and have wide wheels to aid grip in a straight line :thumb:

Yeah, that's what we though when we planned the trip, turns out the roads are absolutely atrocious, I'll never complain about UK roads again after having to drive through France and Belgium!

The fronts squeak a little on full lock and the rears rub if I sling it round tight corners at speed, nothing I can't live with though :]

LewisL 23 August 2011 12:49 PM

thanks fo rthe info everybody!

looks liek with mynarrower wagon track & my rolled saloon arch's i shoudl be able to get what i want under there!

excellent!

BrownPantsRacing 23 August 2011 01:01 PM

lloyd6240 23 August 2011 01:11 PM

coilovers
225,40,18or 225,35,18 tyres
spacer for fronts if you have brembos

of you go :thumb:

Marin 24 August 2011 01:05 PM

Not having a go (I have an RB5 with the standard wheels and usual 215/40-17 tyres) but are these setups legal with that much rim poking outside the arches? I assume they go through the MOT ok? Also the tyres look mega stretched, it's a wonder the bead stays put?

Danny_P 24 August 2011 01:28 PM

2006 UK STi with 18x9.5 ET30 Rota Grid Drifts wrapped in 265/35/18 rubber.

Coilovers, cut the original arches out completely and hacked away all the other unecessary crap and then fitted a set of ABW wheel arch extensions....no spacers required! :D

Nothing to it! ;)

Pyrotechnic 24 August 2011 01:34 PM

Bit of a grey area on the legality really, there's nothing specifically illegal about it, but give a copper in a bad mood a week or so to scour the manuals and I'm sure he could cobble together some conveluted reason to fine you, but then the same could be said for most cars on the road. Certainly nowhere near as illegal as say, removing cats...

MOT is the same, there's nothing in the manuals that say anything about it.

This amount of stetch is nothing compared to what can be achieved, there's a few guys, mostly Dubbers, that do take the p**s though, even going so far as having to glue the tyres on because they're stretched to far.

Pics! 9.5s with arch extensions sounds like you're got major sink going on!

I wondered if it was that one from your description. It's a lot flusher than I'd expect from those specs though. End result is epic :thumb:
